Alberta in Canada has 18 as the age of majority. Friends of mine whose son had just turned 18 called him Sunday morning to annouce it was time to get ready for church. The boy said now he was an adult and didn't have to go.
A couple of hours later he got up and his mother was still home. He asked her what was up and she told him she was packing his things because he was leaving.
He left for a few days anc came back. I asked her how she felt about it and she said it was terrible but necessary. |

Finished it for you...I was in the same situation as above and I left as soon as Uni finished and will probably never set foot in a church again. |

making the kid go to church was irrelevant. besides, there are plenty of legit reasons to hate church.

And I dare bet the mother imposed the restrictions on her son was more because she didn't encourage drink-driving and a way to make sure that is to ban him from having alcohol in the car.
I think she is right. I would have done the same thing. |

My kids were always well aware of several things:
1. This family is not a democracy.
2. My way or the highways, is a good basic rule of conduct.
3. Do not get your mother too angry. She brought you into this world and she can take you out.

If the purpose is to estrange your kids then yea, impose bullsh*t rules.
I disagree with the mother and her supporters on a few issues.
1 She should never have bought her kid a car. He's an adult. He should buy his own car.
2 You can't give someone a present and then impose rules on it's use. The son didn't break any law as far as I am aware.
Sure your house, your rules apply, but if the rules are not reasonable then your kids will leave and never come back(for xmas, thanksgiving, whatever). If you are happy with that state of affairs then so be it. |

If she told him the conditions before buying it and he accepted them, then everything is fine.

If the booze was open and under the front seat that is illegal as far as I know. Liquor can only be stored in the trunk - at least in Canada (is it different in the States?) |

unopened liquor can be stored in the backseat as long as you are of age and not peter Jackson.
Opened liquor is legla in the trunk, as long as you are not Peter Jackson.
