When I got here, I hated the place, I would sleep up to an hour before work because the place pissed me off so much. I couldn't get up before 11am but now I'm aware that was culture shock kicking into my senses.

I had to deal with 'Korean issues' as regards work managment though the place I work at is a pretty decent place to work at all round. After such episodes, I was looking for the KTX schedules to Incehon and dreamt of looking for work in nicer climes.

However, I woke up last week at 7am - refreshed may I add - and have decided that South Korea is good for another year.

I have been getting up refreshed and early ever since!

I think I may have caught a huge, terminal dose of 'yellow fever' which is not going to be cured with an English teaching job in Spain or Peru! Laughing

After my visa run to Fukuoka, I would have liked a shot at Japan but the market is saturated over there.

I think a PS job in Seoul for Feburary next year is the way to go.

Changwon is OK, but a little bit too 'small town' and 'hillbillyish' for me, some might not agree with that description and thats fine by me. But overall it is a rather pleasant place to live if a bit small time.

I'm off to Seoul next year!

Did any of you have the same experiences when you first got here?

I've been good through out the year over in Masan.

Just hit a bit of a wall with winter camp, stopped shaving.

Home leave next week then back for another year.

I'll probably shave again after the vacation.

I love Florida.

Yup, and I am now absolutly regretting it!
I came here in October of '06, and had a few months of hating Korea. Had run-in after run-in with my managment and coworkers and just generally loathed the place. After a few months, things started to settle down for me and I became accustomed to "The Korean Way" of things and actually started to enjoy life here. I enjoyed life to the point that I accepted it when my boss asked me to stay for a second year, I accepted.
I finished out my first contract and flew home for a 3 week vacation until my second contract started. When I came back to the school, it seemed everything had changed. My bosses attitude had become pretty unreasonable, the expectations of my job and the time given to complete additional tasks had changed and just overall the experience degraded to such a point that now I am kicking myself for resigning.
If you resign at your present school, I sincerely hope that things stay the same for you, but for me and my situation, staying for a second year was a mistake.

Main Entry: resign
Function: verb
1: relegate consign; especially : to give (oneself) over without resistance <resigned herself to her fate>
2: to give up deliberately; especially : to renounce (as a right or position) by a formal act
intransitive verb
1: to give up one's office or position : quit
2: to accept something as inevitable : submit

Main Entry: resign
Pronunciation: \(ˌ)rē-ˈsīn\
: to sign again; especially : to rehire (as an athlete) by means of a signed contract
intransitive verb
: to sign up again

Just a little sarcastic help.

Actually, you seem to be able to get some ESL jobs in Germany and Italy without an EU passport. Don't know if they're any good, though.

I saw a job for Danzig (Gdansk) that wasnted a EU citizen, and that's Poland. I think us Americans(and Canada and OZ NZ) are all going to be stuck in Asia the way the winds are blowing across Europe.

Did you get a pay increase for resigning? If so, your boss is probably trying to get his money's worth. Hopefully things will settle down for you again.

Keep in there champ!

I can imagine you have a good year (translation - not get ripped off, get paid on time and are generally treated as you would be back home) then sign again and the mood of managment changes - It would not suprise me one iota if that happened if I were to re-sign with the place I'm at now. Fair play to them though - at this moment they have been fair but this being Korea - anything can happen!

Are you signing on with another school for the next year then? Are you staying in Masan?

I'm sorry to hear about that, I know next October-November seem a long way off but I hope you don't let the bastards get you down too much. What are you plans after this contract? Are you staying in Korea or moving someplace else?

My next Korean soujourn will be Seoul, if anything crap happens then it is a taxi ride to the airport! Laughing
