I've found three hostels online, but most of them have pretty bad reviews. Let me know if you've had any first hand experiences with any of them, or if you can recommend a cheap hotel or guesthouse.

I have stayed at one which was the Mingyuan hostel a few years ago. It had just started and was the only one in town. I thought it was fine, no atmosphere or common room and was basically a room in as hotel with some bunk beds in but saw no reason to complain. Luoyang as a place is just ok but the Longmen caves and Shaolin temple are really great. Dont bother getting a tour as you can get buses from the train station to Shaolin and public transport to Longmen.
