Wow. Not often to I find myself offended from mainstream stuff. Even the nutty right-wingers like Rush seldom manage to offend me. I guess to be offended you have to be surprised?
Anyways. This is downright and damn offensive.

Yeah, the gist of the sketch seems to be an actor impersonating Sharpton, who is supposed to be parroting what he reads in the LA Times.
That said, the original LA Times piece puts the phrase in a certain amount of context, which is kind of lost in Rush's version. I could see the skit appealing to an anti-black bigot. |

It would be offensive if there were some sort of endorsement of the message, but its supposed to be Al Sharpton singing.
Its pretty clear that Rush doesn't like Sharpton (who does?).
The idea is that Al Sharpton is racist and an obstructionist, a holdover from identity politics. |

| The gist of it was to show how the liberals are more into identity politics than equlity. MLK wanted folk to be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. There are many today that claim to espouse his ideals but conduct race politcs, Al Sharpton being a big one. |

Nothing has the same status as the other one.
You seem to recognize this, because you typed 'negro' but not the other one. No, I will not use the other word, either!
Wiki says that 'negro' was acceptable use in the late 60s. So whites for Civil Rights could safely use that word. Things have changed, I guess. |

The was about as low as it gets. It was clearly aimed at arousing the bigots, as if they needed prompting.
I was a little perplexed that Rushie thought black ministers' rhythms and cadences are objectionable. Guess he didn't have any clips of Obama using street slang/hip hop trash talk/Ebonics to exploit.
I don't suppose the United Negro College Fund organization objects over-much at the use of the word 'negro'. |

Well, I said 'almost'. I figured it was like "colored", even though the NAACP uses it. Either way, I'll never dare to use either, ever, when I'm livin in America. "Dude" should suffice. A few years back I asked an African American homeless dude for directions in NYC and said "thanks bro". Didn't go over well. This naive Canuck learned a lesson quickly.
Either way, that skit was damn offensive, regardless of the context I missed. That is my first experience with Rush and I hate the dude. I wonder if this is a sign of things to come, from the nutty right. |

What are you going to when a black guy doesn't like being called dude.....dude? Believe me, some don't like being called that.

It was [I'm offended by the word you used....dude] offensive, REGARDLESS of the context you missed? Interesting...you didn't get it, but its still offensive. And you hate the dude now. That's not very tolerant and open-minded of you, is it....dude?
Hey, I'm far from a defender of Rush since I rarely am able to listen to his show...and he is in show business, not politics. I'm sure he's crushed by your hate but not surprised by your total lack of understanding about The Dude Rev. Al. |

Yeah, a song "Barak the magic negro" on a hard-right talk show is wildly inappropriate. That is the context.
"Dude" is bad? That is just a stand-in when you don't know a dudes name. Identity politics are so annoying. And yes, hate. I hate hate. It is a constant source of misunderstanding about lil'ol'me. |

Agreed. Rush jumped the shark (for about the dozenth time) when the press finally found out he was making regular trips to the D.R. with suitcases full of condoms to cavort with underage boys. |
