Apparently there are some real problems in the dressing room in Toronto. Rampant depression because of how poorly they are performing, etc. I heard that Andrew Raycroft and Vesa Toskala formed a joint suicide pact after the last debacle on ice, and jumped in front of a bus. Unfortunately the bus went through their legs. Hahahahahaha, oh thats rich. Thanks folks, I'm here all week, bring the kids!

Just looking at a few stats, and I noticed Sundin is a +11. That's damn good for a Leafs player.

For Philadelphia, Richards is +12 and Briere is -11. Go figure. Plus minuses are weird sometimes. But I guess it's a good gauge of performance. It's a stat that depends on many things though. Like how often a player plays, who he is matched against, etc. Also, the NHL is a little weird nowadays. I don't know.

Take a look at the NHL leaders stats and especially at the +/- stat. All the league leaders who are one-offs, one-way players, decent players on bad teams (granted), or those who were never considered that "great" have minus numbers. All the really good players, play-makers, two-way players are higher up in the +/- stat.

Look at Ilya Kovalchuk - he's got 37 hoals, but he's a -7. Eric Stall is a -6 (23 goals). One-way players.

Datsyuk is a +34 on a great team, but Iginla is a +18 with Calgary. Both all-around great players.

I was like +3 last Sunday, but I am definitely not a two-way player these days, so theory busted Hanson.

Idiots just won.

I hate when they win this year. Now everybody is going to be talking about how they can turn the year around.

Anybody read Damien Cox?.... might be the biggest idiot in the world. Even moreso than me.

i think the plus/minus stat is interesting but i think it needs to reflect a few more factors to be meaningful, e.g.

1. power plays and penalty killing... a guy who kills penalties is probably not going to have a great +/-, even though he might be really effective, and vice versa for a power play guy
2. timeliness of goals - why should a goal scored at the end of a 5-1 blowout that no one cares about be worth the same as a game winner with 1:00 left?
3. stats of the opposition... similar to #1: if a guy is a defensive specialist who always has to cover the other team's superstar, his +/- is guaranteed to suck, even though he might be doing a great job

i understand that this is rather complicated, but formulas could be used...
players could receive +/- points for successful penalty kills and thwarting the opposition's star players based upon how they perform compared to the average...

if the leafs score on 20% of their powerplays (hahaha that would never happen), then a successful penalty kill could be worth 0.2 of a +/- point...

Too much bother, really.

But the Leafs really suck.

Am I on crack, or does powerplay/pk time not affect your plus minus??

You have to be even-strengthed or under-strengthed for your +/- to go up.

You have to be even or over-strengthed for it to go down.
