Dear All
I have been in Korea now for twenty one months at the same school.
I found out today that the director want's to shut down the English section of our school. I'm very sad, but I can understand why he want's to.
Our student numbers are not that high. I don't claim to be a great teacher but I try.

We are an REI school and the books are not the best. I have had three different Korean teachers to work with in my time at the school. The first teacher was sacked (always sick, drunk!!!!!) I'm the only western teacher in a school of around 35 Koreans.

I have loved working here. What should I do? go back to Australia or try and find another job? My contract runs out in March, but the director asked me if we can cancel it next month. I have made up a list of a few conditions on terminating my contract.

School pays me air fair (one-way)
Contract bonus (pro-rata)
I want to be fair to them.

Can I get another job while still living in Korea?
or
Do I go to immagration with my papers and they give me the blue paper.
Which I take to Japan etc to have stamped into my passport?

Any help would be great! This came as a big shock. I don't want to leave Korea just now. It sounds funny but I love this strange place.

Thanking you all in advance, Michael

They can give you a release letter and then you can get a job at another school.

To Zed

What do I do with the letter? Do I need to start from the begining or is it easier since Immigration has all my details etc?

I'm not sure about the exact process myself. I was informed tonight that my school will be closing in 2 weeks so I'm in a similar situation. Did you do a search on this site? I imagine someone has discussed this before.

Thank you Crazylemon girl.

The information is great. I never thought I would be sad about a job, but this as took me by shock. My boss has always been very kind and nice to me. Last year on my birthday he bought me a jacket, I saw the same jacket in a shop for 495,000 won. I love my students and I will miss them.
