So I am trying to legaly get a second job onmy E2 visa. Most people have told me all I need to do is get letters of approval, copies of my contracts, and the business licenses, then go down to immigration and get a stamp.

However, my current boss is saying that because I work for a hagwon now, I can not work for a second hagwon.

I don't think this is right, but I can't find more information. Does anyone currently work at 2 hagwons legaly? What's the deal?
Is my boss right, or is he just plain wrong?

He's plain wrong. I've done exactly what he has said I couldn't do, and I did it legally.

It's probably in the contract somewhere where you can't harm the business of the school (can't think of the exact verbage right now). If you are working for a competitor then you are breaking that term of the contract.

But as two posters have already eluded to, it could be a situational basis.

Try teaching at an adult hagwon in your area. Many adult academies are looking for teachers this time of year as students are available as they are out of university for the winter break.

I'm currently teaching at a Kindergarten hagwon.
My second job would be doing business english classes for ONE hour in the morning.

OR you could do the "if you don't see me teaching then I must not be" routine

OR you could just RUN as fast as you can

I am just fooling with you. Honestly, you have few options if the hagwon owner is not going to be forth right and help you out. Many are very controlling when it comes to their employees and seldom like the idea of being compared to another school or institution that might show them up in some way. Too bad, but the harsh reality of the situation.

I think you do need his permission, and if he's willing to do it, there should be no problem.

If he's unwilling to let you work there, you have to think of the best way to make him agree to let you work the 2nd job. My suggestion would be a BS story about a sick relative back home, and that you need more money to help pay for an operation, or some such nonsense. The boss won't want to be the 'meanie' in this situation and he'll be more likely to agree to let you work the 2nd job, if reluctantly.

Your boss is your visa sponsor. If he says no, then you can't legally work elsewhere.

If he is saying it is illegal it is wrong.

If he is saying you can't he is right, and within his rights.

He might be saying it's illegal so he doesn't have to say no.

If he says no ask him to find you some O/T to do.

Certainly there is an O/T clause in your contract.

Or find some more students for your Hagwon to attend on the off hours.

Why work for the competition, bring the work into the school if you have the time and energy.

Call immigration and ask. The word is that immigration isn't approving another workplace on a Visa. It came up recently where I work. The company wanted me just to add another campus with the company to my visa and it did not get approved. That was Seoul Immigration; it may be different for an Immigration office in another area.

It's possible and the process is as set out in the other thread you have going on this same issue. What your boss probably means is he doesn't want to give you permission to do so, in which case you are SOL.

You can legally work at a hogwon and
1) a public school
2) a university
You can NOT legally work at a hogwon and another hogwon. This doesn't have anything to do with your contract, it's Korean law...don't ask me
why.
