Not a bad analogy, all things considered.
Originally, in keeping with the 'republican' philosophy of government, candidates were chosen by party leaders...the ill-famed smoke-filled rooms. It wasn't until the days of Jacksonian Democracy that parties began to adopt the convention system. Today of course, the convention is more an inauguration than a real convention and superdelegates rarely get to use their power. |
