I picked this up in Kyobo Bookstore today.

What the hell happened to Ernő Rubik? Christ, Edison's been dead for over 70 years and he's still stealing from inventors better than him.

Well, 99% perspiration, you know. Edison was all about marketing.

Years ago in Thailand I bought a "Word Spelling Game" (or some such title like that) for about 3 bucks. Pretty cheap for Scrabble.

I'm surprised. I would have thought that if you completed the side with all the Japanese flags on it, the thing would automatically self destruct.

The old ladies in the stairwell to Jamsil station used to sell the exact same thing 5 years ago. "Magic Cubes" they were called, then.

Well, there you go. Koreans have a major hard-on for Edison, so his name is no surprise on such a toy.

On a related note, the other day one of my students brought in a cube with only 4 squares per side. The thing was hilarious. He was able to solve it in no time flat.

I had a friend in college who was one of those freaks who can solve a Rubik's Cube in less than a minute. Oddly, he was Korean. And an absolute genius who now works for JPL.
