So here it is in a nutshell -

My wife and I are working at the same Hogwan. We've had a good relationship with our employer. In fact, we renewed our contract in October for an additional six months. Our contract ends at the end of March.

Yesterday, she sat us down and informed us that she's changing the structure of the academy and only requires one foreign teacher (there's three of us). Since we're leaving soon and the third teacher has more time left on his contract, she's asked us to leave early.

BUT, SHE'S TOLD US THIS YESTERDAY AND EXPECTS US TO PACK UP AND MOVE ON AT THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY (two weeks about). Exactly, what are our rights in this situation (in your opinion).

We're not mentally prepared to pack up and go just yet, but I don't want to sign a new contract. Do Hogwans hire under the table for temporary placements???

Tell them that in the contract that you need 1 month to leave the country.

Also if they want you to leave early you and the employer have to both go to immigration to get your visa cancelled...Immigration then gives you a month to leave the country...

That's what happened to me...Not sure if it is right but that's my story

Yes. Where are you located?

Do not expect housing. You guys want to live in a Jim-jay-bang?

So, if you know of any privates or your employer needs a quick fix in Gumi, could you PM me. Thanks...loads.

we're in gumi far from the madding crowds.
no, a jimjilbang is not necessary. in fact, housing shan't be a problem fer us.
we are really curious if anyone has ever landed short-term under the table work that isn't privates, b/c it saves on getting around.

that's too far from my neck of the woods. But, I have met and know a few people who have done/ are doing short stints at hagwons, under the table. I know one guy whose visa was set up threw a hagwon where he's never taught at. He just does P's all day and gives the hagwon owner a cut.....
