The decline in the abortion rate probably has more to do with it becoming harder to get an abortion, thanks to all the anti-abortion nut jobs.

The less abortions, the higher the crime rate you 'mericans can expect in the future. Read Freakanomics to find out why.

Now unless you've spent year after year living with common Chinese, refrain from your school marm routine, Judge Judy.

Condescending?

Dude, my Chinese friends overwhelmingly agree with me.

The One Child Policy is set from on high by the CCP. I don't see how criticizing it makes me condescending to anyone but the CCP leadership.

It was a joke.

Joking remains inappropriate in this case: this is a painful issue for many. Neither is it a simple issue with easy answers.

Don't believe me? Wait until next Tues. comes around...

Joking is always appropriate.

The "morning after" pill isn't included in those stats, and surely it reduced abortion numbers substantially

Oh, why didn't you tell me, Kuros, that you have Chinese friends? That makes all the difference in the world! Rolling Eyes

For every Chinese friend you have, I'll give you two who approve of the policy.

Of course I know that the CCP promulgated this policy. But it had the approval of many who genuinely feared for the limited resources. It's easy to sit back in another place and pass judgment on the policy. That's what is condescending.

Until you've lived day to day competing in crowds for everything from basic dental and medical care to better housing you don't have a clue what that fear feels like.

And the irony is that Mao encouraged large families as a weapon against invasion, which is what he got until his death.

Surgical abortions, I'm sure. There are pills nowadays that can take care of unwanted pregnancies.
