So I just signed a contract with a college right outside of Seoul, and my wife and I are trying to determine if we should move half way between my new job and central Seoul(because I also play music at nights), or if I should just bite the bullet and take the hour commute both ways, living closer to the center of the city. I think an hour's commute 4-5 days a week is gonna take it's toll on me, but I don't want to be too far from the music scene in Seoul in case I have to take a cab home at nights after playing gigs. Any thoughts? |

What kind of music do you play and how often do you play at nights?
Actually, I don't have a lot of advice on this subject. I'm just nosey because I'm a musician too.
However, I do commute to work at PS everyday -- about a half hour each way. Twice as long 5 times a week would be a bit much, I think. |

I play upright bass and bass guitar. Play everything from rock, jazz, classical, funk, latin. You name it, I play it. But, I'm currently involved in a few projects, along with trying to get my butt back in the jazz clubs and hit up the jazz circuit in Seoul. That's my real passion. |

I live in Seoul but work at a uni outside Seoul and have a 1 hour (ish) commute to work. It's actually not that bad I can listen to tunes or read on the subway. If your real passion lies in Seoul then i would say stay in Seoul and stock up on some reading/music for your commute |

I agree with Stuey, and I'll add that if you're going out of Seoul in the morning, if it's on the subway, you can get a seat and read and it will be low stress. The reverse commute into Seoul in the mornings is the hellish thing, being on a jammed train or stuck in traffic on a sauna of a bus. I find that if I'm zipping along in relative comfort, an hour goes by quickly. |
