I'm having trouble choosing a good pair of hiking boots/shoes in Korea. Could someone give me some advice?

I'm not a hardcore backpacker. I like to take one or two hour hikes up the fine Busan mountains in my backyard. There are a lot of rocks, slippery shale, treacherous roots, and mud (when it rains). I'm thinking I need something light and with good grips. I like to climb fast for fitness so I really need something light so that I don't trip up. Also, I need a very stiff undersole for the sharp jaggy rocks that I have to step on. I don't need goretex, as I don't hike in the rain or deep mud.

I've just worn through my old, heavy, leather backpacking boots. I loved those old boots but they were a bit heavy.

Any good recommendations for boots I can pick up at the local hiking store or on Gmarket? I'm looking for something under 100 bucks.

Thanks for the link. I had been reading about hiking boots beforehand.

I'm looking for some specific brand (Korean/International) and make that might be good. There are a plethora of brands and style to choose from, and I'm confused.

Unfortunately, many of the brands available here are not available in western countries. Therefore, there aren't any good reviews. Smile

I have a pair of asolo fusion boots from a shop in Itaewon. They do the trick, are comfortable enough and were reasonably priced. Western sizes available there too!

If you're a guy though, I doubt that will help.

I've had good luck with Treksta boots.

Also, I've bought some Hitecs here that have worn quite well.

I read somewhere that Hitec had been bought by a Korean company, not sure about that, though.

Aren't Trekstas E-Mart cheapies?

Can't go wrong with Pro-specs.

North Face might be a bit on the high-end.

Look online for LLBean, Eddie Bauer, Cabelo's, etc.

Tune in to any Korean home shopping channel on any given night and try a pair of what they're sellin'.
