How often do you have a confrontation?
To clarify, this could your fault or the other persons'.
I am not the most polite of all people, but I think every confrontation I've had (save one) were cases of the locals not liking me do what Koreans do everyday.
I am not counting times when a crazy man just starting shouting at me. That's been a few times as well. |

You gotta be stupid to get into any sort of confrontation with locals who can't speaky englishy.
Always walk away from trouble unless you're physically attacked. |

You can find confrontation anywhere if you are looking for it.
If you have a chip on your shoulder it gets even worse.
Sometimes sh*t happens (especially when alcohol is involved), but on the whole if you're not a loud, rude arsehole and treat people with common respect you should have very few problems in Korea. |

I voted for once every few months, but it really is more like two or three times a year that something happens. Case in point, my wife, who is Korean, and I were walking down a narrow street (this street is not a very busy one at all) and a car comes right up on us and blows their horn. 99% of the time if I hear a car, I get out of the way. However, I did not hear the car at that particular time. I turned around and gave him the middle finger. He yelled at me I said a few choice words to him and walked off. Then he and my wife started yelling at each other in Korean. I kept walking down the street and they went on yelling at each other for a good 5-6 minutes. She stated that he assumed I was drunk (which I was not, as I rarely drink and this was in the middle of the day and we were headed to the movies). Did he have it coming, sure.

I voted about once a year. The last time was when a middle-aged man got angry at a friend and I because we were "talking too loudly" on a crowded subway car. I use quotes because both of us are relatively soft-spoken in public and certainly not any louder than your average Korean gabbing on a cell-phone.
Anyway, Middle-Aged man kept telling us to shut-up over the course of a few stops, and we proceeded to ignore him until my wife started arguing with him in Korean. At which point he started yelling at her, which I wasn't too keen on, but he took a step towards my wife which is when I lost it and none too gently shoved him up against the wall. I was about half a second from decking him before the little alarm bells started going off in the back of my mind about how much exactly it would cost me for the satisfaction of cleaning his clock. Anyway, I let him loose, he mumbled an apology, and got off at the next stop.
However, for the most part, I get along fairly well here. The little things don't bother me too much when I'm out and about, and I honestly don't run into too many over-the-top rude Koreans. |

I was out one night walking round some clubs/bars with about 4 lads. Walked past 2 korean guys one of my mates said "hello" as you do, next minute this Korean guy grabs my mate by the throat. We try to reason with the guy in English, and he starts on all of of us doing flying kicks, punching, and pushing all of us when we try to reason with him.
Some other Korean men try to reason with this crazy dude and his mate who could'nt decide if he was angry or not. Next minute all hell breaks loose(Angry Korean goes too far) and the Korean (outnumbered) ends up getting put down. His mate gets a hiding too. We then had to do a runner.
So whats this about? We tried reasoning with this guy explaining we were not soldiers/did'nt want to fight. He was just up for a fight with foreigners. Regardless of what we done we would've got into hassle. If it was just one or two of us these guys would've give us a good run for our money or even a good beating. We were lucky.
I suppose you get d1ckhe1ds where-ever you go, but why would these guys be behaving like this? Drunk?
Only downside here is that if your attacked you worry about the law being stacked against you. Luckily there were no police around this time.
Korea is not as "safe" as alot of people on here seem to think. Even if you keep yourself to yourself. |

I've had a couple of knock down drag outs over the years. It's always with a drunken idiot. I was walking down the street and accidently bumped one of 3 Korean drunks on the shoulder and kept walking.
Next thing I know, I'm getting spun around and hit. Koreans over 30 usually smoke, drink and work too much. I got a black eye out of it, but stomped some ass. Sometimes you can't avoid it. As soon as the fight was over, I got the hell out of there fast. I punched one in the throat and he went to the hospital (I was told later). |

I'll assume you're referring to confrontations with the local populace, and not with a scumbag employer you unfortunately happen to work for.
Once or twice a year, if that. Even if there is a disagreement about something or someone did something "rude", it is usually dealt with in a civilized manner, and no one has lost face.
It is that rare time when civility gets you nowhere and the confrontation is inevitable. Such things are not limited to Korea. |

Once in four years, and you could argue I was asking for it, although the guy in question is known for his violent streak.
I have a lot more confrontations with foreigners. |

How can you possibly know that some random drunk was sent to the hospital, after bumping into him, fighting and running away? |

Some Koreans friends told me later what happened. They saw the last bit of it but didn't tell anyone my name. As for omniscience--kiss my ass, faggot! |
