Hi,

My boyfriend and I are planning to go out to Korea in March and are new E2 visa applicants. He smokes cannabis occasionally (I'm hoping a year+ without it will make him quit!). How long should he be making sure he stays off it before we head to Korea so that it doesn't show up in his medical check and we don't get deported (well, he would and I wouldn't want to stay without him).

THC is fat soluable. Unless he is really overweight or smokes it a lot, it should be flushed out of his system within a month.

If you are a dope smoker just do us all a favor and stay where you are. In case you haven't heard, dope addicts are not wanted here for the logical reason being - what Korean parent would want their children taught by a degenerate dope addict? Rolling Eyes

My advice to you would be to be careful. I don't know exactly how they test for drugs in Korea, but it may be fairly different than here. For example, tests in North America take into account the amount of certain compounds in your system to eliminate the possibility of unintentional exposure (ie. second hand smoke or taking some medication that shares some chemicals with street drugs). I haven't been able to find any information about what the tests entail, so I'm a little nervous. I've spoken to both nurses and pharmacists about it here (I'm in Canada) and they have both said that since I don't use drugs myself I shouldn't worry, but I should avoid exposing myself to second hand marijuana smoke.

I agree with spliff.

OP should get rid of this thread or any thread asking for dope related advice.

No wonder Koreans are paranoid. Rolling Eyes

Order your criminal record check now. Then...

...quit smoking dope for a month and then go in and get tested. Test positive? Wait another month. Repeat until test is negative. Get second opinions if test is negative. Wait a while longer. Maybe get tested again. Then...

...apply for a job and get all your docs ready or whatever the hell it is else you have to do. Then...

...come to this god-forsaken hell hole and die of boredom and/or save money. Whatever it is, it's time you'll never get back...

I have to agree with boyne.

I wish people would stop asking for serious information/advice here about any kind of illegal substance.

It doesn't matter what your views are, find what you are looking for elsewhere. Try google.

It's one thing to say that legitimate behavior like drinking excessively gives foreigners a bad name, but handing Korean ammunition to load their guns with is another.

It is really a stupid question when you think about it. Why is she asking a medical question to a bunch of lazy esl teachers?

Ask a doctor! Duh. It's not like your doctor is going to call the police and it's not like the police could do anything if you have it in your system. And it's not like if you get tested that that info goes directly to Korea.

Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I was a Medic and Med Lab Tech in the military for 10 years. I used to run those kinds of tests.

Drug addicts, who said anything about drug addicts? It's not like the OP's boyfriend is going be forcing joints in the hands of eight year olds or anything like that. I don't smoke myself but I know plenty of really successful people who do and their smoking the occasional joint has not seemed to effected work performance in the slightest. Also people who engage in smoking an occasional joint are in my opinion are much less likely to become violent when under the influence of said substance than those who consume alcohol i.e. how many pot heads have you ever seen beating the crap out of their wives on a night out? Not that many I'd wager!
