It's mostly a boring hole, and you will be spending loads of dough on taxis to get back from Seoul on weekends, or hotels/motels if you spend the night down in Seoul.

I diagree...

while it isn't Seoul, Uijeongbu isnt so bad. There is a little of everything here and really and a subway ride to Seoul is very cheap and can take anywhere from 25-40 minutes to get to most parts of Seoul.

pjmancktelow: let me ask you.. what things are you looking for in terms of where you work/live?

access to seoul for certain things that can only be achieved in the capital. but on an everyday basis, some decent enough ammenities and most likely a expat community of some scale. not thousands and thousands, just enough to not go stir crazy. im coming to work, not party really.

It's a dream come true if you like the US military and Hitler bars.

The Bu is not a bad place to live. The American military is almost a non entity depending on where you are. The further north you are, the closer you get to Camp Casey, so there is a heavier presence there. On the other hand, if you are close to Uijeongbu Station, there are trails enough to get you away from the city, and the subway links up with Seoul easily enough.

It really depends on what you are looking for. I would recommend the Bu, but then again, I lived in Daejeon for a year.
