Is it true that Skunk Hell besicallly has 2 unwritten rules?
1. Do not bash Korea
2. Do not try to hook up with the local women
If so, no wonder I found it similar to Harlem, just different music. |

ah ok, i went and didn't like it so much, then read that in the Lonely Planet, was wondering if anyone else felt the same.
I'm single so sometimes (often), i'll talk to the ladies. It felt like i was getting severly watched. |

yeah, i mean, A LOT of the girls there are underage from what i gather. even the "mature" looking ones.
i wouldn't say it's like harlem, but i will say the crowd is very, very cliqueish, and you have to be a bit of a regular to fit in. |

Not exactly true, but there are a lot of foreigners who come there and if one or two misbehaved ones gets chased away no tears will be lost.
It's not a pickup club and people don't come there for that; you're free to talk to girls but you better step carefully and don't get caught making the rounds. Of course there are plenty of foreigners there who date the Korean punk girls, but we've all earned their trust over the years and we get a little defensive if we see other foreigners setting a bad example. If you're looking for easy girls you've got just as much chance as you had at punk clubs back home; punk girls rarely sleep outside their cliques. Plus, you're really not sure who you're hitting on. She could be underage or her boyfriend could be in the army or she could be a skinhead's girlfriend. When I was new there, I went after a girl who turned out to be dating the owner. Big mistake and I paid for it.
You're free to say bad stuff about Korea and you'll probably find a large amount of Koreans who agree on most points, but press your luck and you'll find a large amount of Koreans who aren't afraid of the consequences. Skunk Hell is also not a place where you are invited to vent Korea. Save it for this site. Most of the foreign punks you find there are (ironically) content and well adjusted to living in Korea. Hell, we were freaks back in our home countries so we're used to it here.
There are rules for the place, as we're under constant community scrutiny, much more than the much sleazier hip-hop clubs. As a consequence, Skunk is no smoking and we have no liquor licence. We also have to clear the road outside the place so we don't obstruct customers of the Japanese restaurant next door. After a couple foreigners had sex on the stairs we were forced to paint over a lot of the exterior graffiti. That's not the way to behave in Korea, even at a punk club; we almost got shut down. By far the most common offence that gets someone chased away is when they're being too rough on the dancefloor and not stopping when someone has a fall, or being disrespectful toward the bands. There are plenty of ways to be an ass, and incessantly insulting your hosts, or hitting on anything with two XX chromosomes are but two minor examples. Also, we're more forgiving of our friends. Buying a couple beers is a much better way to make yourself welcome there than pushing everyone around, yelling at the bands, making gross sexual comments to all the girls, and getting so drunk you don't know which way is up. If you're new there it's best to watch your alcohol intake, mostly because there are many ways we have fun at the expense of catatonic drunks.
Usually if foreigners are causing trouble, they will be dealt with by other foreigners. I've always preached that only Koreans should fight Koreans and only foreigners should fight foreigners, which makes things a lot simpler. We've had a rise in incidents lately, too. |

Racetraitor, I've planned on making it to Skunk Hell and always get diverted, but getting there for some shows in the spring after my vacation is something on my list.
Based on your post, I'm guessing that showing up at Skunk Hell with my Korean girlfriend and drinking beers out of a bag won't be a problem. I promise not to grab random girls' asses.
One other thing, I think this a great example of skewed logic:

Is there a correlation? |

There's no reason for any reasonable person to be intimidated about coming to Skunk. If I'm around and you introduce yourself I'll get you a beer. Why drinking beers out of a bag? Just because the place doesn't have a liquor licence doesn't mean you can't bring your own beers in. Hell, sometimes they have free soju on the counter for anyone to take.

Uh...Well, not really. From the main entrance, you used to be able to see "group sex" written in Korean. The residents of the building were wary about this, but after they caught the foreigners having sex, they started to believe Skunk was really a group sex club. In the process of covering up that bit of graffiti they erased almost all the rest of the graffiti outside. |

Dude-you were put up for adoption, and for some that is really traumatic.
YOu were then rejected by your adoptive parents.
I get you want the attention, but I've got compassion, even for garbage like you-your adoptive parents saw what you would become, and took a big dump! No offense to crap, but you were destined to become crap-I rally am not interested in kicking crap around, as it gets my shoes dirty.
Don't forget to have a nice day. |

I have bread, little bit of mayo, tomato, onion, tuna peanute\ butter [why you want that with the rest is beyond me, but I am a giver] cheese slices, old cheddar, eggs, and a willingness to experiment in ways I would never have considered.
You are welcome to it.

it's a loose policy put together by people who run a club.
you're free to test it if you want. i'm sure you'll find yourself unsuccessful in a very embarrassing capacity. |

I guess there are alot more than two rules. Only in Korea do the punk clubs have more rules than dance clubs. |
