Guys, we need a lawyer ASAP!!
A friend of mine has been accused of following someone and physically assaulting them. He got into an argument with these people last week and today he was accused of following them and assaulting them.
No one saw him hit anyone, but a bystander saw him raise his fist. The bystander grabbed my friend, but my friend somehow ran away. And then slipped and the bystander chased after him and held him till the cops came. They went to the precinct and took statements from all involved. My friend denied everything and was released, but the cops promised to call him in. |

| Tell him to fake an injury. Say the guy restraining him hurt his neck. Go to the hospital and lay there for a week and threaten to counter-sue. It is underhanded, dishonest and a horrible thing to do, but that is how things work in this country. No need for lawyers here when you can lie without any threat of being punished for it. |

Do a search online for "Korea law blog." I believe the man's name is Brendan Carr.
The US embassy (you American?) should have a list of lawyers, too. |

Perhaps you don't know much about tort suits in the West but there plenty of experts, doctors, scientists, lawyers, etc. who, for a fee, will present your point of view in a court of law.
It's always fun to see two sets of expert doctors present directly opposing views in some tort injury liability case. |

Don't waste your time with Brendan Carr he doesn't do English Teachers, and rightly so.
I'm actually VERY surprised the police even bothered to take statements, usually they can't be bothered to get off their fat lazy asses.
Sounds like no one got hurt.
What may happen is the matter may go to court, and you don't even know about it. I'm deadly serious here.
No chance to defend yourself, no cross examination NOTHING. Some Judge will read the statements and based on those statements make a decision, then you'll get something in the mail.
Most probably a fine.
Best bet, whilst not in detention, collect your next pay and get out.
Finally make sure your embasy is involved. Some completely stupid twats here rescind their right to inform their embassy. Always Always get you embassy involved, it makes the cops change their tune. |

If Carr doesn't represent drug cases or cases of foreigners doing something stupid (robbing a taxi, etc.), that's understandable, but simple refusing to help teachers because they are teachers? Does he feel the same way about black people and people in wheelchairs? |

Its not the guy who held my friend that we're worried about. The guy was a bystander. Its the people my friend supposedly tracked and assaulted. Nobody saw him assault them, but of course witnesses could mysteriously appear. And their boss at their workplace says he will review the cctv footage to see if my friend appears in it. There are three people who have seen my friend from last week and they are colleagues. Two of them, including their boss who came to the police station later and told the cops my friend had argued with them last week.

He shouldn't waste any time. He should get himself checked into a hospital pronto. (Do non-Americans know 'pronto'?).
I also recommend he cries like a byatch during his check-in.
Emasculating, to be sure, but highly effective.

I was talking about the hospital, not the police station.
edit: Americans use that term when you have to fill out a form to be admitted. Same as a hotel (at least where I come from - Boston - but we are weird people, so maybe it's only regionally used.) |

Yes I know there is. However, if the OP's friend does lie about his injuries his case will not go to court as everyone sounds connected in his case and the police will view it as such. In this case the person with the highest $ total in their hospital bills is not quilty. Koamerican, this is not the US, although the American system is brutal too (maybe even worse than the Korean system). The person with the highest total in their hospital bill is the victim regardless of who the aggressor is. |
