And he limits "colonial nonsense" solely to renderings of the Union Jack, whereas the very choice of colours and layout of many a nation's flag are just as much remnants of their former colonial servitude. Surprised he doesn't bash every flag with a cross for "religious nonsense".
Points off for "weapons"? Pffft!
First, weapons are cool and opinion on this matter is unanimous. The older, more primitive the weapon the better, generally. For there is no more reliable indicator of a country's benighted backwardness than trappings of modern weaponry or industry on its national emblems, such as flags and currency. (the �500, a case in point)
Points off for "Plagiarism"? Okay, we'd be here all day.
Points off for "Corporate Logo" ... On this point, I think we can all agree with him.
Good thing he didn't include flags of sub-national entities, because there isn't a single Japanese prefecture flag that doesn't look like a logo for an Asian electronics, construction, steelmaking conglomerate.
Points off for "Graven Images" ... I wish he'd just shut up. |

I spent 6 months in mozambique. The symbols are quite apt because everyday i saw either farm workers carrying hoes, or soldiers carrying AK's.. Seems to be what the country was built on. The book is presumably marxist ideology. |

What are you talking about -- Georgia's flag is "completely wrong"? It's not the current flag, but it is the one that was used between 1918-1921 and 1994-2001. If the website was created any time during that latter set of dates it would be 100% correct.
Argentina has two flag designs -- the design with a sun (The Sun of May) is called the 'Official Ceremonial Flag' while the design without is the 'Ornamental Flag'. A large image of the central figure shows that it isn't frowning either; the lips are in a neutral expression with an upturned chin located below.
While the page can certainly use an update I think it's silly that you're complaining about him using (1) an official flag that is no longer flown and (2) a secondary design that is still considered official by that nation's government. Should those really count as "[being] just messed up"?
The flags from "Congo" (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) and Tuvalu are no longer current (but both were used in the past). However, if you really want to nit-pick, the color schemes (hues) depicted on the site are not entirely accurate. In particular, the colors for Sierra Leone, Sudan, Suriname, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan are especially bad. I'm surprised you didn't even catch the fact that he lists Yugoslavia as a nation despite the name being abolished in 2003. Goes some way toward showing the date this list was created ...

Technically, Monaco is not recognized by FIFA so cannot participate in World Cup qualifying or the final competition. Otherwise, yeah, that would make for an interesting dynamic in the stadium. 
On the other hand, New Caledonia (Nouvelle Caledonie) are second in World Cup qualifying from the OFC and they fly the same flag as France. If they can finish ahead of New Zealand and beat the fifth-placed team from the Asian qualifying zone they'll be in the finals ... |

I didn't nitpick about the flags/countries being up to date, as I don't think the site has been updated recently.
However, I've never seen the "ornamental" Argentinian flag flown anywhere, and I wouldn't say it's generally recognizable.
Re: Georgia, I was having a chat with my father about it, and he (being a historian) thought the flag should have been the one with St. George's Cross. I looked it up on Wikipedia to confirm, and agreed with him that the current Georgian flag did in fact feature the historical St. George's cross. As it turns out, this was only recently reinstated (http://www.mapsofworld.com/flags/georgia-flag.html) so when the site was made, I suppose it would be correct.
How did you become such a vexing vexillologist? I used to have a quote in my signature on another site that said "All flag experts should be punched." However, you deserve a grudging pat on the back instead. |
