Korean News Article about proposed law allowing foreigners in the government
I mean, this is only a proposed law and so it is not official, but assuming it does become law, what effect do you think this will have on Korea?
I mean I can't imagine all of us ESL teachers are gonna start studying Korean and preparing for the civil service exam as way of finding something else to do. However, I would imagine that if there were even just a few foreigners in the government, this would certainly have to really begin to inject some forward thinking ideas into the government. The other question is do you think any qualified, ESL teachers-come-long-termers might go for a job in the Korean government?
This just seems interesting that country that is at times one of the worlds most xenaphobic may propose a law that would make it in one respect, one of the most open. Of course we all know this move is more about the economy than inclusivness.
Regardless this may be the first bright idea LMB has actually concieved.[/url] |

Even if this DOES pass, any foreigner that gets a petition would need credentials that would be above and beyond what is needed for the position. |

that's still better than CANADA. You can't get a good job if you've got a foreign degree |

Yup, I think this will be a rarity. Might be a few working in certain secions (can you imagine a foreigner as an Immi officer??), but at higher posts, expect to see them only in financial areas. |
