I went to the Mokpo immigration office today to renew my E2 visa. I resigned with the same school and it took 10 minutes to get it done.

I had to provide the following documents:

Passport
ARC
New signed contract

I completed one form at the office for an extention of my sojourn. That was it!!

The officer took my documents and entered the info on the pc, signed my ARC on the back, stamped my new visa in my passport and I was out of the door.

It cost W80,000. The visa renewal was W30,000 and the multiple entry was W50,000.

Was surprised how hassle free it was. Shocked Laughing

I second that..

Recently went through the whole process, took about an hour at Mokdong. Both the application fee and multiple-entry fees are waived for British, which was nice (if you think this is unfair, let's talk about pension refunds!).

Wait until after March 15th. Then we'll see what the process looks like.

My contract ends very beginning of June.

I wonder if I can extend/renew on or before the March 15 deadline. I'd have done 9.5 months at that point.

I want to avoid this criminal record check nonsense if possible. I'm considering not returning to Canada and just continuing on in Korea.

I'm in the same situation. I think the condition is that one must have completed 10 months with the previous employer to be able to renew. But don't give up yet. Regs may change as the March 15th deadline approaches and the teacher shortage worsens. Also, the new administration appears to sound more English teacher friendly, so they may adjust the present nonsensical regs.

I got out to Northern California last month and called the Consulate in Francisco. The Consul said, "The Ministry of Education is completely wrong. You don't need to do any of that trash to renew your visa. You will have no problems taking care of it when you return to Busan." That is a direct quote; I changed none of the wording.
