|

I have really enjoyed reading all the movie posts lately and I feel like my tastes are similar to most of yours. Can you recommend any good comedies? Sometimes I feel like Ive seen them all, but then I remember seeing "Withnail and I" for the first time some years ago. Id never heard of it (Im a yank and it isnt as well known in America as it is in England I guess) and it was a revelation. I know there must be dozens upon dozens of other gems out there that Im equally unfamiliar with now.
Any lost in the shuffle, under the radar, old and forgotten, new and obscure, worth a second look favorites? Id be delighted to hear from anyone and everyone and have a years worth of promising downloads to look forward to. I love comedies and its generally a pretty awful genre to be a fan of, one can only take so many "Shallow Hal"s. |

Groundhog Day! I downloaded it yesterday so I could watch it this morning while getting ready for work. And since I love Bill Murray, lets toss in What About Bob? |

Waking Ned Devine, Black Sheep (the New Zealand one from 2007), Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The Man Who Knew Too Little, Dog Soldiers (it's actually a horror film but I thought that the lines were really funny)... they are just off the top of my head. I'll try to think of some more. |

Yeah! I saw a trailer for "Black Sheep" and forgot about it. It looked fantastic. Right up my alley. Thanks! Enjoyed "Waking Ned Devine," and "Hot Fuzz" is the best newish comedy I've seen in the past year I think.
Bill Murray is at the top of my list of favorite screen comedians along with W.C. Fields, and Peter Sellers. "Stripes" is endlessly watchable for me. Love "Groundhog Day" too. His "Where the Buffalo Roam" is a fairly lousy movie, but it's great fun watching Murray play Hunter Thompson. |

Trading Places. Stripes. The Three Amigos. Spies Like Us.
Yeah, I'm an SNL fan.
I didn't find The Man Who Knew Too Little very funny. |

The Closet (Le Placard).
French film circa 2001, absolutely hilarious, typical "French" humour. |

I liked The Closet ok, same with Office Space. I'm going to look into Rumdiary's recommendations, I'm only familiar with the titles. Thank you.
I've never heard of Guest House Paradiso, I'll have to check it out. I'm downloading Black Sheep now. Thanks again!
I loved Stripes and Trading Places growing up and still do. Three Amigos and Spies Like us not so much. I think it has something to do with the protagonists of the former two movies typically being smarter than those around them, where in the latter two I remember it being the opposite case. I enjoy a good bumbling hero but those didn't do it for me at the time. May be time for another look. |

I really like the Mel Brooks movies like Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and History of the World. |

Mel Brooks is hit or miss for me (sometimes within the same movie). Those you mentioned are my three favorites as well, along with the Springtime for Hitler section of The Producers, and Young Frankenstein is way up there on the all-time list for me. I'll definitely watch History of the World again soon. It's been a looong time. |

The Big Lebowski
Fargo
Rushmore (for more Bill Murray)
The Royal Tennenbaums
Four movies that I had to go see twice in the theatre because I was so busy wiping tears of laughter away that I missed half the dialogue. Classics all. |

40-year-old Virgin had me wiping away the funny-tears. Sideways was also really funny, in an awkward way. |

This has got to be one of the funniest movies of all time.
You know how I know you're gay... best scene in the whole movie... |
