-Now I don't go to hookers, I think its wrong, and gross, and disease-ridden and unsafe, and you get the idea. So when my few, young, male, Korean friends hear me whining about the lack of females out in the country side of gangwon-do, they let me in on a korean secret.
-Missi
Missi is a hot married lady. No, not a real person, she is the insitiution, what we vulgarly call a MILF. These two guys then start to explain that a lot of 30 something year old women prowl around the universities and work places looking to 'get a little something on the side." One was bragging how he started this his first year of university. And sometimes the women buy you dinner! or pay for hotel.
-So in other words its normal for young single men to go after married chicks here?! And I thought only the men were fooling around in the da-bangs and barber shops. |

Judgment aside (because people shouldn't force their morals on others), the issue of prostitution being unsafe and disease-ridden occurs because it is illegal. Making it legal would provide enforcible safety laws, take out the black market aspects including violence and give women the right to get help when assaulted or mistreated. |

Its not unsafe and disease ridden because it is unregulated(I am tired of this excuse). It is because these girls can screw many random men in a day therefore increasing their chances to catch something icky or worse yet, stuff you cant get rid of with a shot. VDs are still transmitted through unregulated consentual sex between couples but the risk is somewhat less since they have fewer partners.
Also women that are married are still battered so it is not necessarilly a risk of the profession they are just increasing their chance of meeting a turd. |

It's not an excuse, it's shown to work and is a much better alternative than it being illegal. Amsterdam is a wonderful example of prostitution being legal and safe. Condoms are required, it's the law. There are safety nets set up to make sure women aren't being abused. And most of all, the government recognizes the industry and EDUCATES people about it. This is opposed to Korea and other nations that try to eradicate it or ignore it, leaving people ignorant of diseases.
Your example of married women being battered is a whole different ballgame. Domestic abuse is something Korea should actually make illegal and enforce laws on, it's called violence, not consenting adults having sex.
If you don't like prostitution, don't hire a *beep*. That's the road I follow. But don't condone something because "you don't like it" or "it's against my beliefs." King Solomon had 600 whores, btw. |

If I were a woman, I'd cheat on my husband too if I never saw him and didn't get sexed up in over three years. I'm sure cheating ajummas don't cheat because they're bad people, they cheat because their husbands neglect them and their lives are boring.
Don't look down your nose at it. |

First link is about AIDS stats, nothing about prostitution. Second link is first of all a wiki link (unreliable information and user edited) and doesn't clearly state anything showing that legal whores are worse off than illegal ones.
A prostitute, legal or not, is at more of a risk for STDS and AIDS than someone who isn't a wh0re, but women who sleep around without direct payment are at the same risk. Should we make sex outside of marriage illegal? Cab drivers are more at risk for being killed by an automobile than a sushi chef. Should we outlaw cabbing?
The issue remains that a system which recognizes and regulates prostitution, educates people and tries to make it safe it better than a system that outlaws it or ignores it (like Korea) and doesn't properly teach people about safe sex (Korea and parts of the USA). |

While legalizing and regulating prostitution seems good on a theoretical basis (enforced safe sex, ability to turn to the authorities if abuse occurs, etc), it promotes sex tourism, which in turn, increases demand and increases the instances of human trafficking.
The majority of the prostitutes working in Amsterdam are not Dutch citizens, they have been trafficked from Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia and are forced into the profession to meet the demand from Western sex tourists and make large amounts of money for their traffickers.
I believe women should be allowed to do what they want with their bodies, and that the practice should be safe, however legalizing prostitution simply does not achieve this end.

Then regulate the sex traffickers, make it safe for the women, because whoring isn't going to go away, no matter how legal it is.
Jesse Ventura knew this felt like the state of Minnesota should make it safer and benefit by taxing it instead of the money going to black market gangsters.
I guarantee women being recruited as whores in Amsterdam are treated much better than they were treated in Eastern Europe and especially Southeast Asia, even if the were prostitutes in their home countries. But by making this kind of importation illegal (and the legal establishments would also want it illegal), this wouldn't be a problem.
Prostitution, abolition of alcohol, war on drugs, etc.: Lots of resources put into fighting things that will never go away, and in turn redirect money to gangsters and violent traffickers. |

This sure got off topic fast. Let me try to get it back where it started:
This phenomenon you describe surprises me, and I thought I had heard it all about the underbelly that exists under 'conservative' Korea. I wonder how many universities have this? I wonder how explicit the women are about it, or if they just hang around and wait for the male students (who maybe know what's going on?) to approach them.
Also, I wonder if it'll work for me if I hang around women's universities. |

Happens a lot in USA, Canada, Britain, Australia, NZ and Europe too!
Except "western" women are more-organised... they make the men pay for dinner and no need to use a hotel... |

I think that adultery is illegal in Korea - if a foreigner is caught (most likely ratted out by someone) he can be jailed and/or deported ... |

I pulled a couple of married chicks on my last stint on Korea. They're the ones cheating (for reasons already mentioned), not me. Morally, I'm absolutley fine with it. If their husbands treated them as something other than full-time housewives, it'd be far less common.

So the OP is saying that Korea has cougars too. Cool. At Varsity you were the man if you took home a yummy mommy, even more so if you had breakfast with her kids.
Why should young Korean guys be any different? Older, experienced woman teaching them the ropes. Hell yeah. |
