January went by with only one event, regrettably, and I don't have an excuse. I'm going to be out of the country for some of February, so I'm going to plan the next three right now, just to be safe.

The first Sunday of February
Feb. 3rd, 1 pm
Lunch at Taj Palace, Itaewon

Cost: around 13,000

This place has hosted us so graciously in the past. They have enough room for a huge turn-out, and even though not all of their buffet is vegetarian, they have brought extra vegetarian and vegan dishes, even free lassis to the table.

If youre starting at the subway station, take Exit #3 and walk straight out until you get to the first intersection. Youll pass a Starbucks and a KB Bank. Turn right, and the Taj Palace is on your right, on the 2nd floor.

The third Saturday of February
Feb. 16th, 5:00 pm
Potluck dinner at Lisa's

Cost: Free! If you're a good cook, make a dish to share. If you're not so good at cooking, bring fresh fruit or beverages. Lisa's place is very spacious and comfortable, and she's got a crazy French Canadian werewolf-themed game to teach us too.

Directions to Lisas house:

Jangji Station (pink line, #Cool, exit 2
walk straight.
On your left, theres a footpath.. turn left onto the footpath
turn right at the street
keep walking until the first intersection
turn left there
walk all the way down until the end of the road
walk, walk, walk, don't give up
go through the gate into AiCorea

once in AiCorea, walk straight and take the road that curves to the left
youll see a building called sarang (love)
top floor
door is on your right

The first Sunday of March
March 2nd, 1 pm
Lunch at SM Chinghai, Yangjae

Cost: 13,000 won
Elaborate, totally vegan buffet and they sell lots of vegetarian faux meats and some Amys products

By bus: Go out exit 5 of Yangjae Station and bear right; you should come to a bus stop about 1 minute later. Take bus 4430 (Green) and get off at the second bus stop. You will see a Starbucks across the street. Cross the street and walk right, you will see the blue SM Ching Hai sign on your left.

By taxi: Take a taxi at exit 5 of Yangjae Station ask the driver to take you to Samhomulsan (삼호물산); the ride costs about 3,000 won. This will bring you to the bus stop described above, cross the street and go right.

I should be off my crutches by February 3

(what a hellish hospital experience - three days at St. Vincent's in Suwon - I went about 24 hours where I couldn't intake any food or water - just an intravenous tube uncomfortably stuck in the back of my hand while facing a Crucifix on the wall: I finally rang for a nurse to get the dang thing out, exclaiming "I'm not Jesus for Chrissake!"...)

Anyway, nonvegetarians who are willing to abstain from any meat or fish items are welcome to join our gatherings - and newcomers should PM "Kermo" to get on the mailing list - or contact the Seoul Veggie club site on facebook or at this website: http://seoulveggieclub.wordpress.com/

I've heard that the Feb. 16 "potluck vegetarian dinner party" has been canceled due to problems with the venue, but it will happen in the near future (probably after "kermo" returns from Canada.)

I'll probably meet with one of the organizers and a couple volunteers from "Animal Rescue Korea" this Sunday at the Ashoka in Itaewon for lunch. If anyone is interested in helping them at this time by donating to their cause - or adopting a dog - can PM me about joining us for the lunch buffet (vegetarian) at Ashoka this Sunday (Feb. 17)

Even if you're non-vegetarian - but want to help the plight of dogs in Korea - you're welcome to come to this - which isn't an official "veggie club" event anyway ... It will be at 12:30pm.
