I hear it's about to go under...if you have a prepaid membership there, take advantage of the place as much as you can...or if you can, try to get your money back.
And if you were thinking about joining...don't.
I only know of the location in Apgujeong, but there may be more branches from what I hear. |

It's just what I heard from a friend who frequents that gym. Maybe it'll go under next month...or in 6 months, but I hear it's not doing well. |

This is what I heard - that the Apkgu branch was shut down because of a rental disagreement with the owner of the building. The owner wanted to increase the rent but wasn't willing to do some upgrades.
That being said though, I'm also told many of the staff weren't paid and it seems to run far deeper than a rental disagreement.
Good luck to anyone who bought 'life time' memberships - your life might just be up. |

The branch in Gangnam closed too. Seems they pulled the old cut and run without telling any of the members. This morning they were open and then this afternoon they were closed. They convinced a bunch of people to buy 1,000,000 won "lifetime" memberships in the last few months (including my girlfriend). I first read this thread months ago so I warned my girlfriend but unfortunately she had already signed on. The company obviously knew what was happening, so the last minute money grab seems pretty low. Right now there is an angry mob in Gangnam. Police and lawyers have been called and everyone is trying to figure out what to do next. |

It should be good in any California Fitness Center, regardless of city or country. Doesn't help you much if you're here for the long haul, though. |

Funny, the CFC's in Thailand are pumping. They must be up to a dozen clubs these days--and they're nice. How's the flagship--Myeongdong? |

Oh man. I am back in the states now, but went to the Gangnam location everyday last summer. I really liked that gym. Wierd - they were busy doing major upgrades in July and August of '07. Made me think they were doing well.
Perhaps they financed all the nice equipment and buildings with debt and had trouble paying it back. I wonder if the recent market turmoil and spreading lack of credit had any role in the demise of the Korean franchise. |

...I don't get it
Well, considering the ridiculous abs I chiselled during my 9 months there, I would argue that no, the money spent was a great investment. An investment into the temple of which all woman now worship. So, $1,000 divided by each pebble of my rippling six pack - $1,000/8 washboard like stomach pebbles = that's $125 per pebble of woman-worshiping goodness, seems like a steal to me.
I'm guessing others made similar wise investments. |
