Thank you.

There are global ATMs, different from regular Korean ATMs, in Seoul that accept foreign cards.

Citibank in Gwanghwamun has them. So do the banks at Anguk station near Insadong. There are more, I don't know about Itaewon.

Guess the farther from Seoul the more trouble you will have. I would try near an embassy / Airport or other governement place. Or call the new Seoul help line ..again not sure if they can help outside Seoul.

There is a Korean Exchange Bank in Itaewon towards the bottom of the main street, near the public toilets, on the public toilet side of the street. Near where Burger King is now, I think. You should, on a good day, be able to use your foreign card in one of their ATMs.

Try your foreign card in there, it won't work. Only "global" ATMs accept them.

Ha HA!

Actually, what I have found is that you're more likely to get an international bank machine at someplace like 7-11 or GS 25 than in an actual bank ATM. In my area, NONE of the machines at actual banks take international cards. Sparkling!

They do, but the problem is finding the right one. When I first went to Korea, I had a real big problem with that.

There is one in Itaewon dong about half way up the street on the opposite side of burger king. From memory there was a shop around there that sells those bb guns. That might have changed since that was about 9 years ago now. lol

Anyway just picture the main road. It was between the burger king intersection where you go down to hooker hill and the road that yongsan garrison is/was on. There is an atm there and I think there was a door leading into it. I used to use my Australian atm card there with no worries at all.

Taking a card from home is a big mistake. Either draw a lot out or try and find something nice and close to home while you have money still, because it will be a real headache trying to find one in another spot.

Just because the atm says that it will accept your card, it doesn't mean it will. Rolling Eyes Korea sparkling!

That's just for show. You've obviously never tried to use your foreign card.

Banks in Itaewon that have taken my credit card (also a mastercard) are:

Shinhan bank - go to the ATM's that have the global sign on them. It's in the hamilton hotel right by the subway station. It's ALWAYS worked for me.

The bank under Gecko's (don't know the name). Mostly works, once it didn't.

Tiny little ATM machine just past the Steff Hotdog on the street outside a small convenience store. Worked once. Never used it again though, so I'm not sure about reliability.

There is also a KB bank on the same side as Cold Stone and Quiznos towards the Starbucks, and a KEB by the new Burger King location. I'd imagine neither of those would give you trouble if you went to the global ATM at either of those banks.

I'd use the Shinhan one though. It's always worked for me, the three machines that are global are clearly labeled, and there are English instructions if you select there to be so. Plus it's right by the subway station, so you don't have to go searching.

Good luck.

There's one in pretty much every subway station. There are fees for withdrawals of course, but there are international ATMs clearly marked in subway stations, even small ones with just one exit.
