In a perverse way, the lunatics of the WBC are advancing the cause of gay civil rights. When Middle America looks at the news and sees their loathsome protests at military funerals and, now, Heath Ledger's funeral (this still shocks me a bit), even people who wouldn't normally be able to say the word 'gay' without a grimace are likely to be moved to re-examine their feelings.
When a grieving parent who has lost a child in the Middle East hostilities goes berserk and shoots a crowd of WBC protesters, I won't be at all sorry. They've got it coming. Still, I do think they're going to sway popular opinion more effectively than anything the Human Rights Campaign and the other gay/lez/bi/etc organizations have done so far.

 You are quite right sir. I take back my reactionary reply to what I had read, and I edited my post to reflect this. Freedom of speech does mean that everyone has the right to their opinion. However misguided, they may be. My reference to them rotting in hell has nothing to do with me believing that it exists, because I don't. However, I feel that they probably suffer greatly in their own way. |

Really? The bible sure does seem to be filled with hate. God wipes out whole nations, has his chosen people chop up women and children for minor offenses. God himself sends a bear to tear apart some children for teasing one of his prophets. I'm not sure what, for example, the first born son of some poor vendor has to do with anything in the realm of master/slave relations. But that family had to suffer the death along with Pharaoh. Oh well. It appears god kills lots and lots of innocent people when the leader of a nation sins. I'm sure there were plenty of innocent children in Sodom. They died quite horribly. God destroyed Sodom because of homosexuality. Why would god not wipe out other cities and nations for the same offense? He's pot committed.
The WBC are the only ones to open their eyes and realize it.

It's a bit like christians who are against homosexuals but don't mind divorce. Sorry, both are major sins in the eyes of god. You can't be a good fundy and believe one is a sin and the "putting asunder what god makes in heaven". If you believe god literally made the world in 6 days then you have to believe quite literally in all the rest of the stuff. |
