i wouldn't take princess's word on beer.
tsingtao is probably the best mass produced beer in asia. the key, i think, is it doesn't include any rice in the recipe (max prime doesn't either, but they still funk it up somehow) |

| Hell, let's be honest here. Cheap beer is cheap beer and tastes that way, plain and simple. I was disappointed when Seoul Pub stopped selling Franzikaner. As far as cheap Korean beers go, Stout and Cafri are ok and cheap. |

| tsingtao is cheap (in china), yet tastes good. why can't other countries (including not just korea but our own) do that? profits. rice or corn is cheaper than true beer ingredients. what really bothers me is just how high imported beer costs in korea...don't FORCE me to drink your crappy beer by making good beer double or even triple the price. at least stateside, if you dont want a sixer of coors, it's only a few bucks more to get something decent. |

also, anyone notice stout has been repackaged? new glass bottles and now even a plastic pitcher. says "NEW!!!" everywhere and i guess now hte official name is "black beer stout."
any regular drinkers spotting a taste difference? i can't. but the plastic pitcher does make it slightly cheaper than buying 12 oz glass bottles |

Is Black Bear stout just the old Hire stout repackaged?
A great beer I discovered in Vietnam was La Rue. Way better than Tsingdao, which isn't a bad beer!
Korea has to make some of the worst beers in the world! |

The WA-BAR beer is brewed by a German brewery called Oettinger. It's just labeled with the WA-BAR name, but isn't brewed by them. |

Oettinger is 1500 won or so per 500mL can at Emart.
I've had North Korean beer. Think Tiger beer, but not nearly as good. Although its has more hops than South Korean beer, it tastes like it was made from a cheap concentrate and they haven't figured out the right amount of water to add to it yet. |

keepin the thread alive.
went to emart to see if they had oettinger 9they had 1500 won/300 ml pils and 1800 won/500ml hefe in the past).
now its 1800won/500ml for "super forte" - 8.9% alcohol. can't say it tastes as good as the others, but i mean, at that price, i think it's more bang for your beer buck than cass red. but the taste...in fact, i can't say it's much better than a "malt liquor" back home....so on par with korean beer i guess! |
