A lot of talk has been going on for the E-2 visa, but everybody has just kind of assumed E-7s were being left alone. But I was talking with a friend last night who recently switched jobs and had to apply for a new E-7. Apparently, he was rejected for the visa due to a new policy implemented January 1st where E-7 holders are required to have at least 5 years of experience in the field in which they will be working. I don't know if the same is true for renewing an E-7, but seeing as it is true for E-2s, I wouldn't be surprised. My visa is set to end in July, so this is rather disappointing news to me, as I will have been at the same company for 3 years here but will still not have enough work experience to meet the requirement. I already can't go back to teaching like I had planned after this contract without a lengthy and risk-laden process, and now I may not even be able to stay at my current job...

Anyone else had any experiences out there? Keep in mind this started January 1st.

it's not true. I've seen the requirements and had them translated to me. Someone, as usual was either full of crap or not telling the truth or both, actually.

So where does one see the requirements? You can use that stupid eye-rolling emoticon all you want, but a friend of mine is getting stiffed out of a job. If it's going to be up to some random Joe Blow at immigration (on top of some random Joe Blow at the appropriate ministry) as to whether I'm eligible for a non-teaching job, that will affect my choice of staying here longer or not considerably.

What I'd like are answers and useful commentary, not Rolling Eyes s...
