Hello! I was recently contemplating rescuing a puppy in Daegu. I was wondering how accepted dogs are here? Will I be able to just walk it down the street and if I need to go into a store or restaurant can I just tie it up outside? I know in Canada that is quite often the case. People are fine, and happy as long as you clean up after your pup!
Also, are they allowed in subways? I have seen small "purse" sized dogs on there before.....
I need to figure out how difficult it is to actually have a dog here before diving in!
I was just at the market and saw many small puppies crammed into a cage and made my heart sink. I feel like I can give one of those puppies a better home than their inevitable..... doom???
Anyways....

My dog goes most places with me. He's been on the subway more times than I can count and has gone into plenty of stores and eateries. He was actually in a couple of bars in Itaewon last night. He's a little guy though (4 lbs) and rarely makes noise. He's also a very friendly boy. The only place he's been turned away from was the top of Seoul Tower. So I think if you get a reasonably sized and somewhat subdued dog, you shouldn't have a problem.

What about medium sized dogs??? on the subway?? yay or nay???
the problem is.... i have NO idea what type of dogs these are and what size they will get to be.... i just want to save one:)

I don't have a problem with Bibi. She goes into stores with us, in taxis, picks me up at school and no one says anything to us about her. We just make sure we pick her up (in stores), and clean up after her. I am a little over-protective of her here because a lot of folks don't like dogs, so I make sure she keeps out of other people's personal bubbles.

So many girls are terrified of her, it is actually kinda funny. I have seen women scream bloody murder, and throw themselves face first into the walls to hide their faces from the horror that is my 6 pound puppy

As for medium sized dogs I don't think it would be a huge difference.

The Daejeon shelter has tons of little dogs, you should check out animalrescuekorea.com they have tons of pics and are very helpful. My dog was born there.

I find most people here don't hate dogs, they are jsut afraid because they are not used to having them as pets. Almost all of my kids tell me how much they want a puppy or cat but their parents (usually their moms) had a bad experience (which is almost always...they were bitten by a mother when trying to play with newborn puppies) and are therefore terrified for life, or they think that they are dirty and will make a constant mess.

There are a couple of cute dogs in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum that really need a good home.

It's harder to find homes for a full grown dog rather than a puppy, so you'd really be making a difference in a dog's life.
