What ideas must I have on "men"? Which men: feminst heterosexual men? Gay men? The men in my family? Why would I have any perspective on men, in general?
I know what that is, luckily I have an education:
Quote: |
Ad hominem abusive (also called argumentum ad personam) usually and most notoriously involves insulting or belittling one's opponent, but can also involve pointing out factual but ostensibly damning character flaws or actions which are irrelevant to the opponent's argument. This tactic is logically fallacious because insults and even true negative facts about the opponent's personal character have nothing to do with the logical merits of the opponent's arguments or assertions. |
Let me see: the origin of this thread was about Women's Issues, was not about male-bashing, I've never expressed any antipathy to "men", in general, but rebutted a poster who has made overtly offensive, harassing, and sexist statements, which I re-posted, without alteration, I've actually articulated my perspective, which has not been addressed or commented upon, and we're back to hatred of men and labeling me a racist although I'm half-Asian (didn't care to dig deep enough before some have made their idiotic assertions, did they?)
Quote: |
A red herring is a metaphor for a diversion or distraction from an original objective |
Strange, we haven't been speaking about women's rights in Korea for quite some time -- but back to Cognorati's alleged man-hating, which no one can find evidence of?
More peculiar, I'M SUCH A MAN-HATER, PEOPLE WHO CAN FIND NO EVIDENCE OF IT ARE WAITING FOR ME TO SHOW IT! ("..I'm waiting to hear what you really think of men").
Wow -- what rational folk we have out here...
Pray tell: why would I hate men? |

Both groups draw criticism from men because they are empowered women. |
Myth . That implies men on some level are trying to keep women from being empowered . I'm sorry but that just spits in the face of the obvious evidence where men have actually gone to great lengths to assure women are empowered .
Are there cases where individuals have tried to disempower others ? Of course ...we are talking about human beings . But the gender aspect is pretty random . The idea that men are huddling together and scheming to rid women of power is ludicrous......I do know a certain gender that has been known to do that at times...but it's not men .

She's right . I don't dislike women cog...quite the opposite .....I dislike PEOPLE like you . Your gender isn't all that an important part in the equation...in fact it's not important at all ....after all , unlike you I'm not sexist. Actually "dislike" even is a bit strong .Since I've realised you are one of those neurotic nutty people it's more a case of pity than dislike. |
Again, clear proof that you make it up as you go/type along. I think this, no wait, let me change that. Not as easy to identify between posts, but in a single post it speaks for itself.
Yes, of course you don't dislike women. You want to adore them, pour drinks for them, provide for them. Notice you didn't say learn from them, emulate them, etc. It's all very clear from your word choice. You think Korean women would be 'neurotic and paranoid' if the threat of sexual abuse were real, which in fact is as statistics prove. But then sexual abuse doesn't mean anything to you because you experienced it right? In that country where the people are too polite to harass.
It's all very nice to talk about respecting people as individuals. Individuals who have no gender, race, nationality, sexual preferences, etc. Very PC of you.
Yet you keep hinting that you (and many others) prefer Asian women who are more tolerant. Why are they more tolerant? Could it be because they've been conditioned to accept whatever men have decided? This should be clear enough.
Talk to any Korean and find out the snowball's chance in hell the unmarried Korean mother has. That and the fact that Korean men don't want to care for children from previous marriages and it is no wonder why so many Korean kids are put up for adoption. I even had some Korean males in a conversation class tell me they had decided that the mother of a their deceased friend COULDN'T keep the couple's child. Keep in mind that these men were about 25 years of age. Unreal.
They are just now getting around to changing the ho-ju system, debating marital rape. Think about it. It's actually the topic of this thread. Not your personal 'individual' agenda.

It implies that men don't like to share power. It implies that men get rankles, sometimes violent, when they are being played, especially at their own game, which is called 'control the power structure'.
Care to provide any of the obvious evidence? WHO is saying that men are huddling together and scheming to rid women of power?
Are you refering to the Council of Trent? Perhaps the Catholic church as a whole? You know the church with the guy and the pointy cap? Will you ever provide any sort of examples or details in your posts? |

But really, though, you've all converted me, and here I was thinking there was sexism in Korea...
I mean, I had this friend, see, a young woman from New Zealand, who was a coworker at my school.
Well one night, she went out clubbing and became intoxicated, and one of those tolerant and submissive Korean women, who are definetly not racist, let a Korean man ride home with my friend who was quite ill --
Well this Korean man's expression of his sexuality, his way of showing her "sexual attention" was to break down my friends door (who, at this point was slipping around in her own vomit), and raped her.
But you know what -- Korean police are really great and understanding (all those claims by those "radical" feminsts can't be trusted, especially their numbers): they didn't even take a report, let alone refer her to a crisis center or support systems -- but who would want to sit and talk with those feminst "hags", offering their psychological, unproven rhetoric -- "Fekk" them, and their false, allegedly emperical evidence. I mean, this happened to another poster on this forum, but that doesn't mean there's any pattern with the conduct of the Korean police! It could've happened in the west, for Pete's sake!
Luckily, I have worked with rape crisis centers and women who've been sexually abused, where I come from, so I was able to support my friend and get her to an international clinic -- not a crisis center, mind you, but a gynocologist who didn't even take semen swabs, or refer her to mental health professionals. But hey, <<Billy Pilgrim>> is right: Korea really is progressive, and anyone who would point out otherwise would have to be a racist, including anyone who is half-Asian...
But let me wrap this up, because according to <<Scarlett>> and <<Cunning Stunt>> violence against men, committed by women, is just as significant an issue as violence against women, and we need to devote as much space on this thread, about women's rights, to their anecdotes (nevermind that <<Cunning Stunt>> will never have to fear being raped anywhere, during his whole life span, almost anywhere he goes-- why is that? Oh there aren't "really busy guys" who will rape men, I gues, and women definetly aren't busy that way).
My friend was subject to sexual harassment on the job, as well, with an adminstrator actually coming into her classroom and asking students to vote on how attractive they found her on different days -- but hey, "mild sexual harassment in the forms that I've described... Get over it". No way that rape and harassment are simlilar threats, especially in the mind of rape survivor -- what freaks, gosh...
She started going out again, and that same tolerant, opinion-minded Korean female friend -- well, she was great. She did my friend a wonderful favor and contacted her rapist, and had him meet them at a club for a night of fun, although my coworker was unaware.
Whoa -- don't get upset, anyone! Please don't be surprised! This is a matter of cultural relativity. The Korean female said that maybe she'd want to have a talk with her rapist, and maybe they could be FRIENDS.
Oh yeah, I forgot: she also said that from her Korean perspective, it wasn't really rape, because she seemed to be attracted to him at the club that night (never mind that she actively resisted him, was vomiting, and suffered forced penetration).
So yo, those feminsts with their definitions of sexual assault, man, they're the ones with the problem. Societies should be allowed to formulate their own defintions of assault, as well has defintions of what constitutes a violation of a woman's rights, as with cases of genital mutilation, or child sex slavery -- but yo, dude, who cares about some freakin Africans in the boonies or some poor thai girls -- the majority of normal women (middle-class, white, educated "normal feminists") will never go through that shet, bro! How alarmist can you be (nevermind that I volunteered with some African women who had been mulilated). Let's not play the friggin race card!
But hey -- feminists need to lighten up: God forbid that an incident like that should be added to any phoney, trumped up, "radical" feminst stats. I'm sick of women playing the rape card! And we shouldn't "demonize" male sexuality, because of one incident -- I so agree with <<Cunning Stunt>>.
And hey, if my friend or any other victims of rape were on this forum and tried to make a case for feminism, "Fekk" em. They're all man haters...
It's like <<Scarlett>> said, they're plenty of violent women out there, beating men. And you know what, just like <<Scarlett>> I'm sick of women pretending to be victims! Nevermind that they may be, so what: if you are raped, for Pete's sake, call the friggin police and -- WHOOPS! Women in Korea do that to no avail! Oh well. They should just be silenced and shouted out of any discussion of women's rights.
You know what, I don't even want to be heterosexual anymore. No way, dude, because sexism is the way that one can most express a love and "adoration" of women -- heck
im evenchanging my writin and pnktuashion, u feel me! no captals or spell chex chezmoi.

11% of rape victims are men. That number is ever increasing-- tragic that things are getting worse for everyone isn't it? Unless you think that rape or violence is only significant when it happens to a women, in which case I'm sure this will make some folks happy
I had a friend who was raped by a local celeb, and after much convincing she went to the police with her mother to report it. You know what the cop said to her? "My 10 year old daughter has more sense than you" and "you consented to sex when you got in his car". Wow who knew that agreeing to let someone drive on a date was consent to have sex. This guy lived in our neighbourhood and I'm sure he went on to rape again. She was also forbidden from telling anyone her story or she would face legal action. Sick.
This is not a problem in Korea exclusively.
Edit- I miss quoted the stat!

Of course, if the Korean woman is raped and actually admits this to her family, then she will be shamed once again for bringing dishonor to the family name, the ancestors, etc.
One of the things that I respect most in life is the ability to take negative energy and mute it. To somehow turn it off, to negate it into nothing.
Anyone can create positive energy or negative energy. Anyone can end positive energy. But it takes a very special type of person to mute negative energy, to end it by not passing it on or internalizing it.
To be honest, I truly believe that women have been given this ability or developed this ability much more than men. Most probably they created this ability. Out of necessity. |

Did someone suggest that rape was exclusively a Korean problem?
Got a link for your stats? By the way, who is raping those men? |

I believe it was implied that it was a greater issue here than in the west.

Men commit ( by a huge majority ) the sex crimes that go around . That is a well known fact . Like I mentioned before you have to wonder why this is the case . Nature or nurture ? Is it something inherent to men to be violent ? Or is it their social conditioning ?
Given that the gross majority of men are not interested in doing anything violent to anyone , one has to assume it's nurture .
Men conditioned in loving homes are extremely unlikely to commit these crimes , while those brought up as many men are in a cold and uncaring environment are . If you want stop crime against women then you last thing you want to do is alienate these men and treat them with less care ....you want to create the idea that men need and deserve love and change the way society treats men . Men act dysfunctionally not because they have too many rights....but because society is too callous about their feelings and they act out . |

Excuse me?!! How did society treat the Korean man who raped my friend, the male priests who've sexually abused the women I've worked with, the men AND WOMEN who mutilated the genitals of those African women I've worked with:
THIS IS HOW: SOCIETY TREATS THEM AS IF THEY ARE NOT CRIMINALS, AS THOUGH THEIR ACTIONS WERE IN THE BOUNDS OF NORMALCY, AND LET'S THEM GET AWAY SCOT-FREE, EVEN IF THERE ARE EYEWITNESSES.
What proof do you have that these men came from unloving and uncaring homes? And where does one draw the line between a man who will rape, using physical agression, and a harasser, who uses verbal agression? Do harassers come from unloving homes, as well?
SO THEIR ONLY RECOURSE IS TO RAPE AND MUTILATE WOMEN? Are you suggesting that women are only paying for the deficits they've exhibited in child-rearing, and these men were victimized by society?!
WHOM SHOULD THE WOMEN RAPE AND MUTILATE, SINCE RAPE IS AN ACT OF VIOLENCE THAT DISREGARDS THE FEELINGS OF WOMEN, AND DEHUMANIZES THEM? WHY AREN'T THESE WOMEN I'VE WORKED WITH RAPISTS, EVEN AFTER THEY HAVE THEIR GENITALS CUT OFF AND DISCARDED, WITHOUT ANESTHESIA, OR SEWN TOGETHER AGAIN, OR BEEN RAPED REPEATEDLY, FOR PAY, FROM THE AGE OF 11 OR 12? ARE WE TO BELIEVE THAT IF THESE WOMEN BECAME RAPISTS, IT WOULD BE JUSTIFIED?
WHY DON'T THESE WOMEN BECOME RAPISTS? WHY DON'T THEY "ACT OUT"? |

Nothing to do with western men .
Are you implying as a matter of fact that Korean society is apathetic about rape ? Again what B#llshit !
I see you imply in this next part that men don't need reasons to behave in this way....it's just normal fore men to act like this in your opinion ? Men are just randomly evil ? I see ....again it's clear you hate men .

Why are you lumping them in as if they are all equally bad ? Is raping someone the same as some innapropriate comment ? The world is not black and white sweetheart....well...not to everyone...*wink

You make out as if I defend rape . .....are you sane ? Hardly any men rape so stop making blanket statements ...and stop throwing in clitoridectamy as if western menor korea men carry it out....what bollocks !
