By boat? No. By plane? Probably.

Your box can be 200 cm total when you add these together

(Height x 2) + (depth x 2) + width = 200cm or less


My big boxes of that size cost around 50,000 by boat depending upon weight.

Shipping by boat is the most economical way to go, as long as the package doesn't need to get there in a hurry. Make sure you use a STURDY box because the package will likely take a beating.

20 kilos (44 lbs) for 50k won going to North America by surface mail.

If you are sending heavier stuff (like books) simply get a #5 box from the post office.

If you are sending lighter stuff, get a #6 box and let them cut it down for you (while you wait).

I shipped 4, 20kg boxes home in September of 2007. They arrived in November in Canada and the cost was about 150 canadian dollars near about. They post office provided the boxes as well. All in all I thought it was quite reasonable.

The loot we got out of Korea(thanks to Troppatz's info) enabled us to have things in the states people really envy. Make the most of your time in Korea. If you see stuff on the side of the road(we got tiger portraits, calligraphy) send that too. Most teachers dump their stuff and that's a waste. We decided we loved our stuff so sent it all(gave the furniture to our TKD teacher).

We shipped 26 post office(1,000 won cost per box) boxes to the US. As a poster said, the cost is reasonable for shipping. We shipped Korean blankets, Celedon ornaments as well as 56 gun/ornament,etc lighters, switch-blades, star-knives(and other crane game prizes), even my fav. Korean blender, and korean shoes made from grass.

However, try to get away with "slightly" bigger boxes from the supermarket or where-ever for gratis as depending on how much your sending as getting the money/weight value becomes difficult if you intend to export all of your Korean booty. A plastic footstool placed inside one of our boxes saved my guitar stuff/other valuables(those boxes in transit take a beating). We even placed "handle with care" which doesn't account for @#$%-all we found.

The only damage was losing 4 korean beer mugs out of 8/2 plates and only because we had too many in one box(probably, "trashed" deliberately as it is stated glass shouldn't be sent).

Worst of all, the PO boxes disintegrate. If you have to use their boxes, also use their tape and wrap-up your box tighter than Tutankaman.
