At the risk of sounding paranoid, if you have arranged for secret cameras to be set-up to catch them in the act, perhaps all of the posters on ESLcafe should now stop replying to this thread.

I would hate for the kindergarten in question to somehow get wind of the planned expose.

I for one am going to make this my last post on this thread, though i hope to hear the good news that they've been well in truly busted in the next few weeks.

Good luck with it anyway.

This is only a smidgen of irresponsible management of children in Korea. When I was teaching in Seoul I was visiting generally 3 hogwans a day and at about one in 5 classes I would find a teacher who is completely incompetent and unable to deal with her kids rationally, only able to resort to physical violence and humiliation. Im not even sure if some of these teachers could pass a test of sanity.

Hopefully with some good investigation we can uncover this place and use them as an example.

Teachers can also help out by keeping an open eye on their fellow teachers and standing up and stating that they cannot treat children like that in his/her presence.

Man, if someone did that to my daughter I would murder him/her.

What I find curious is that if this has happened frequently why haven't the kids told their parents? I know they may feel ashamed, but don't you think at least one kid would be upset and tell his/her mom that his/her teacher locked him/her outside in sub-zero weather? Wouldn't the offending teacher be at least a little worried about that scenario?

It's nice to know that the press finds it horrible enough to try to report on it. Good job not going to the police. They're useless in child abuse cases where teachers or parents are concerned (and in pretty much every other way, too).

Wow...good for you, sounds pretty cloak and dagger. Hope it's the media and not someone who will use the films to blackmail the kindie.. Very Happy

Usually, when you do something like this it doesn't happen again. I hope this isn't the case though and they are ferreted!

I wanted to cry when I saw this. I could never imagine doing this to one of my students. Geesh... I feel bad taking away their stickers when they are really, really naughty. Even then, I usually give the sticker back if they say sorry. Wink

I showed this to my Korean husband and he said if this was his daughter he would not wait for the police... he would be there with a bat.

I know you have loads of offers for help but my husband works in advertising and knows many people in the media. If you need any help, just ask!

This might sound weird but I'm proud of your husband. There'd be a lot less crime in this country if there were more people like that.

It's not weird. But I guess you gotta be careful what you do with a baseball bat.

That's for sure, but there'd be a lot less abuse of women and children if the potential abusers were imagining that baseball bat before they ever did anything.

I'm really not much for vigilante violence but a certain level of fear of societal retaliation is necessary to maintain order.

I remember a case (long time ago, I think) on Grand Manan Island (New Brunswick). Forget what the guy was accused of doing now. I'll have to look it up. But the whole town lynched him or burned his house down or something and it ended up he was innocent. I forget exactly. Some vigilante thing.

Mobs can be dangerous.

I think he meant they are recording the fire escape where the offending action took place, not the classrooms, I-Guy.

Cabbage Town Royals and RACE TRAITOR you both did something good here. It's great to see people actually taking action instead of just complaining all the time

This story is on the cyworld main page as the main headline

Wow. Good work, Mr. and Mrs. Traitor. Countdown to thread becoming a series of personal feuds and apologist/whiner debates...5...4...3...2...

Daum has it as well.

My Korean wife translated most of it. The day care owner's quote is funny. He says, paraphrasing, "This is bullsh!@" and totally denies it, saying that it is hard to even come into work with the cold weather, so they would never do that to a kid. He then threatens to sue the reporter for defamation or something.

The local child care authorities are quoted as saying that there hasn't been complaints against the daycare before, and that they would only get a warning.

Rolling Eyes

BTW, the daycare is for low-income families.

Not a great ending, if that's the case. Cabbage Town will have to keep an eye on things and report any more offenses. I still think giving copies of the pictures to parents as they pick up their kids would be great, or posting them in the neighborhood.
