Hey all,

Sorting through employment options in the following areas - any input would be greatly appreciated as everything I know about Korea was learned from MASH... not the best resource.

- Chuncheong Nam Do
- Busan
- Heongjin (gunpo City)
- Uijeongbu
- Anseong

Tman, Can only really comment on Chungnam-Do.

Couple of big cities, Daejeon, Cheonan. About 150 kms from Seoul. Excellent bus and train links which take about 2 hours into central seoul. If you're looking at EPIK contracts then you could be placed somewhere very rural.

I have an EPIK contract here and it's really really good, landed on my feet. I live in a small city with about 30 000 people, so very small by Korean standards, but wouldn't swap it for the world. But it comes down to tastes. If you're looking for nightlife, decent bars then somewhere else would be better.

The expats seem to a lot more relaxed in the country though, away from the suffocation of the big cities like Seoul and Busan.

Will write a little more later, gotta run for the moment.

I'd be looking at Heongjin and Uijungbu, as they're closest to Seoul. And if you're a fan of M*A*S*H, can you tell me which one of these places the show was set in?

In Chungnam, as with most of Korea there's plenty of mountains. There is the famous spa's of Deoksan here as well. Not been yet, but they sound really good. I would say the beaches are excellent but unfortunately the oil slick before christmas may have affected Taean and Daecheon. I hope not because that's where I'll spend most of the summer vacation.

I wouldn't swap the location for anything. Especially after a day's teaching there's plenty to help you unwind, not the hustle and bustle of the cities. The cities have everything you could need gyms etc. In a city of the size that I live in there's at least 30 other native teachers working at PS and hogwans. If you are looking in Daejeon then there's a hell of a lot more.

If it's EPIK you're looking at PM if you want more info on that particular area that you are looking at settling for.
