Just wondering if any one has had experience scanning their slides or negatives. I have a ton of stuff I'm planning to do (hundreds of frames), just bought a Nikon Coolscan VED and an external drive. Now all I have to do is scan and sort them into folders. Any one have any good ideas about how I should proceed? Basic scanning tips and the like before I start.
I figure I'll be saving everything in RAW, as large as possible with limited alterations to the image. I figure if I want to use the image later on I can alter it with Photo Shop, but for the moment I want the least loss of sharpness. I'll just organize everything by location and event with basic dates.
Any other ideas? |

Well if you're going to scan them in RAW and there are hundreds of images then my first advice is make sure you have enough space.
Other than that, organize well. Not really something there are a lot of tips for... |

I got the space so far, 200 GB and a DVD burner. As for organising, I heard there were a few programs that were good for veiwing and organising.
My problem with organising is that I have multiple styles and types of images. I would like to view all portraits regardless of location, then I'd like to be able to pull up the same image while looking through images from a specific location, I'd like to be able to pull up images that I feel are my best without making seperate files, or images of sunsets in Canada, sunsets in Korea or both or then be able to pull out only the images from Kathmandu or even a specific location in Kathmandu. So I'd like to save more info than just in the title of the image, I'd like a key word list a specific location, date. My file names would hold the year the image was shot and title.
Anyone know about a program like this? or a method of doing this? |
