If you want to know about Cuba, you must read "Pentagonia" aka a secret history of Cuba, aka the color of summer aka the new garden of earthly delights and such, by reinaldo arenas, aka, skunk in a funk, aka gabriel.

Hugo Chavez might buy Cuba and run it (since he didn't get elected "President for Life" in Venezuela ...)

I don't really think that Canadian tourists are held 'in high regard' in Cuba. I was just there, and did a few days at a '5 star' resort, and a week in Havana. For the most part, the Canadian tourists were loud and ignorant. In general, the Cubans seem to prefer the Europeans.

I had a history teacher in highschool that teaches on and off again in Cuba during vacations and sabbaticals and such. This is not a new destination for EFL. Just don't expect the pay to be decent. I think that will be true pre and post beard.
