Jeff Rense Program, Lew Rockwell Help Fuel Ron Paul Campaign

While the more diehard Republicans have their Rush Limbaughs and Sean Hannitys, Ron Paul supporters gain their mega media exposure through the likes of Jeff Rense and Lew Rockwell. Both have massive followings and the ability to spread Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul's message to a rather large sector of the US population (not to mention the world).

Jeff Rense is an American conspiracy theorist and radio talk-show host of the Jeff Rense Program, broadcast on US satellite radio via Genesis Communications Network (GCN) and Internet radio.

Rense's radio program and website, Rense.com, cover subjects such as UFO reporting, paranormal phenomena, conspiracy theories, tracking of new diseases & possible resultant pandemics, environmental concerns, possible evidence of advanced ancient technology, geopolitical developments and emergent energy technologies, complementary and alternative medicine among other subjects, which include extensive articles focused on Ron Paul.

And while Ron Paul may not share all of Jeff Rense's views, Rense is a strong supporter of Ron Paul. His website cannot be underestimated for its reach.

"That site claims to get 10 million hits per month," reports Gambling911.com Senior Editor, Payton O'Brien. "We believe it! They are among the most prolific traffic providers to the Gambling911.com website when linking to articles appearing here."

Like Limbaugh, Rense can be controversial. But controversy draws readership (and listeners). Two recurring themes on the Rense show, according to an entry on Wikipedia, are a general mistrust of the establishment, and the claim that the attacks on the New York World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 were orchestrated by Zionist neoconservative elements within the US Government, the CIA and the Israeli Mossad. The Rense.com web page access is now restricted (as of 12/2007) from some users by the Websense firewall, which blocks the site under the categories "racism" and "hate."

Rense supporters insist that the radio personality is "anti-Zionist" and not "anti-Semetic", pointing out that he regularly invites people from the Jewish community onto his program.

For UFO fans like Payton O'Brien, the site offers rich articles delving into alien civilizations and UFOlogy such as Life on Mars? That article reports on an object that appears to be a "small statue" photographed on the Red Planet.

Whereas Rense focuses on a whole potpourri of subject matter, the website LewRockwell.com focuses more exclusively on Ron Paul. And why not? Lew Rockwell, former congressional chief of staff to Ron Paul and founder and president of the Ludwig von Mises Institute, is an opponent of the central state, its wars and its socialism.

Lew Rockwell's web site features a selection of articles, including opposition to war and imperialism along with occasional articles criticizing the presidency of Abraham Lincoln. The site also carries essays which argue against the participation of the United States in the Second World War, speculation about an end of the United States as a cohesive union and assertions the Western world is threatened by an intersection of fascism and socialism alike as politicians and states centralize their power. These writings are sometimes controversial and have brought harsh criticism from both the political left and right, according to an entry on Wikipedia.

"Whether you like his views or not, there is no denying Mr. Rockwell's impact on the Ron Paul campaign and the traffic his website receives," O'Brien says. "It is a very informative website."

LewRockwell.com ranks among the top 10,000 websites according to Alexa. Rense.com comes in around 12,000. Both are superior numbers in the whole scheme of things. Compare that with RushLimbaugh.com's site which ranks around 19,000 based on Alexa.com data.

"Some will argue that the views expressed on both Jeff Rense's and Lew Rockwell's websites can at times be extreme," O'Brien suggests. "But in retrospect, few organizations are more 'extreme' than the American Family Association (AFA), whose founder, Rev. Don Wildmon, has personally endorsed Huckabeewhich endorses Mike Huckabee. This is an organization that believes all gambling is evil, yet they supported recently passed online gambling prohibition that ensured exemptions for betting on horses and state lotteries."

It's good that Dr. Paul gets coverage somewhere. The Republican field has fallen from 11 to five now. After Giuliani loses in Florida it'll be four. Yet a recent survey of national news coverage shows that the other candidates get from 50 to 200 times as much media coverage as Ron Paul. If Ron Paul had equal coverage he would win in a heartbeat.

I think it was Rockwell who wrote the infamous Ron Paul reports.
