|
|
So, I'm leaving Korea in 3 months, and I'm wondering what are some of the gadgets I can get from Korea, that I is cool, and not cheap in North America.
1. Divix player, 1 terabite.
2. Digital SLR
3. Multimedia player (maybe a cowan)
4. Unlocked cellphone
5. USB 16 gigs
thats all the toys I could think of...if you guys have a better idea, let me know please! |

I'm sure most of those are cheaper in the US. |

I'm not sure what phone system(s) cell phones run on in the US, but Korea is one of the LAST places I'd look for an unlocked phone. |

I wouldn't buy ANY of those in Korea if I were leaving. ALL of those will be cheaper in the USA. |

TVIX divix player is cheaper here IMO. You can negotiate a cash price here and there is no tax.
The HD to go into one, US might be cheaper depending on how good your bargaining skills are.
I would suggest just buy a 500gig and when you are in the states buy a 1 TB external system. The Western Digital one is pretty cheap and works with both PC/MAC systems. |

He is Canadian. Add in tax and GST and the already higher price Canadians pay for electronics, some things might be similar in price or even cheaper. For example I bought some 4 gb SD cards a couple weeks ago for about $32. The price is similar to what Amazon.com sells them for but futureshop.ca sells them for $54 and that doesn't include tax and gst. |

I can tell you as a Canadian, the TVIX is cheaper in Korea. There are only a few places that sell it in Canada, when you count shipping+taxes, the cash discount you get here makes it WAY cheaper.
Also, like I said, go with the 500gig HD in it and I was just checking COSTCO.ca...
http://www.costco.ca/Common/Search.aspx?whse=BCCA&topnav=&search=western%20digital&N=0&Ntt=western%20digital&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-CA
The TB external drives are coming down in price. They even have 2TB drives now. When I go back to Canada I'll be picking up a 1 or 2 TB external drive forsure. |

divix players are much cheaper here than the US, especially if you pay the extra shipping cost, if you live in a small town in the US.
plus anyone got anything else they might buy thats not on the list? |

Divix player? Could someone give me a little more information about what it is? I don't know much about thing kind of thing so I'm guessing it's like a harddrive you can plug into your TV and watch movie files from your PC or something?
If it is, I've been looking for one of those...what sort of price do they go for? |

I remember on AFN they had a thing about GIs going to china and coming back with 8 gb Sony thumb drives for an amazing price and turns out they were hacked thumb drives with far less storage capacity. Have you tried to fill you whole thumb drive? |

There aint much in Korea that's cheaper than a competitive store in the west.
The chaebol rules here, which means that healthy competition is a foreign concept. Not Korean. |

Above it states the guy is from Canada.
Also there are different makes of DIVX players. I prefer TIVX.

I bought the HD M-4100SH for less than any price posted on the Korean websites...
Canada sucks for shipping and tax. Tigerdirect.ca doesn't even sell that product and they are many times Canada's cheapest source of electronic goods.
Point of fact is the US is cheapest for just about anything out there...especially if you live in the right state. Canada on the other hand...well, usually our goods are priced higher. Look at the value of our dollar, yet books are still 30% more money. |
