Hello,
I am going to the Philippines for vacation and the bank just told me that my international bank card no longer works outside Korea. Apparently this is in accordance with a new law for foreigners in Korea. I am not happy. I don't like to take a lot of money in case I am robbed.
Do I have any other options?
I do have a Samsung Master Card and they told me that I could take cash advances on that. However, the magnetic strip has never worked on it. Can I take money out at a bank with the credit card in hand? Or at a Western Union?
Any help is appreciated.

You can use your card at most major hotels, resorts, restaurants, dive shops, grocery and department stores in the Philippines (and this gets you the best exchange rate as well).
You can also go into a bank that features Mastercard (like BPI http://www.bpiexpressonline.com/ ) and get a cash advance up to the limit of your credit card CASH allowance (usually 1million won on Samsung cards).
I have found that if I take 10,000 pesos (from the airport in Incheon) along with about $1000 and my credit cards I am good for a month or two in the Philippines.
If you are only going for a few days (or even 2 weeks) it will be more than you need. US$1000 is only 10 pieces of paper. |
