Luciano Pavarotti married Nicoletta Mantovani, with whom he already had a daughter, on December 13, 2003, at a ceremony in Northern Italy.
Mantovani was 34 years his junior. |

T. S. Eliot felt that his marriage at 68 to a woman 39 years his junior helped him mature.
When he turned 70, the mellowing poet declared: "I'm just beginning to grow up." |

Charlie Chaplin married Oona O'Neill when he was 54, and she was 18.
Their marriage produced eight children and was apparently serene.
My security and stability with Charlie, Oona has said, stem from the difference in years between us. |

People comparing this guy to Pavorotti, etc are looking just at the actual age. It's not really the age that is creepy, as you have proved. This guy is basically taking someone with no other choice but to marry him. And with the guy's comments, anyone here believes he actually loves her (and I know most marriages have little love, but that's not the point). At best, it's a lifelong business transaction (and luckily for her, not too long). Anyone who thinks differently is fooling themselves, or very hopeful. This thread has shown me why I don't hang around with a lot of guys in this country. You're creeps.
He is exploiting someone who would definitely not have married him if the world was equal. She's doing it for her family most likely. I respect her. Anyway, the guy is a moronic hypocrite at the very least, saying older women suck. |

And your evidence that she had no other choice is....what exactly?
In any case, you've made the invalid assumption that no other choice = compulsion.
If your buddies took you to a restaurant and all that was on the menu was pork and beef dishes - yet you hate pork and beef - are you compelled to stay and eat? Or can you call it a night and go home?

The above doesn't make sense, but nevertheless, you've made the invalid assumption that the only permissible pretext to a sexual relationship is love. It's (a) irrelevant to the age difference issue and (b) naive, since many relationships take place for many different reasons often with love peripheral if not absent.

So everyone's happy. No-one, as far as we know, is suffering any harm at all from the relationship. Both parties are doing this because, basically, they want to.

It's a consensual relationship - two people are making themselves happier as a result of it. Get over it already.

I'm sure we're not missing much.

They are exploiting one another for mutually beneficial reasons. Two people are happy doing something they want to do that you don't like, basically. Fortunately for them, and for the rest of humanity, their bodies are theirs.

Why do you respect what you assume is exploitation for money (from a young woman) and not exploitation for sex (from an old man)? What is the moral premise that forms this dividing line? Your dividing line is as arbitrary as it is completely contrary to nature, reason and common sense, at kindest.

Older women do suck with regard to sexual attractiveness. It's because they're infertile. Actually, that's backwards - older women are infertile because they are sexually unattractive and haven't influenced the genepool. Men are fertile their whole lives, so it's not at all hypocritical. Older women are reproductively useless; older men are not, hence why older men hit on younger women. Again, it's backwards: Older women are reproductively useless because men of all ages hit on girls in their 20s (and older women capable of reproduction didn't reproduce and those genes died out). |

Seconded. Do I want to be the guy's friend? No. Do I give a rat's ass he's found his definition of love and she's found her definition of security and safety? (Assuming he doesn't beat her.) No. |

Nope. But you creeps can continue to persuade yourselves that she wasn't forced. Almost all prostitution and marriages like these are forced in Asia (and other places), usually by the families for money or a green card (they can move over when she has become a citizen of those countries). I can't prove it for this guy, but I'm not putting the guy on trial or trying to annul his marriage. Then, I would also demand proof. But I'm just giving my opinion of the ass, and statiscally, these girls are almost always forced to do these things and don't want to. |
