My internet stopped working on Saturday on my other-computer...
I can't survive without two computers both with internet...
so Monday - I went to KT Megapass and asked for service ASAP...
They sent an "ajuma" to my house - who wanted to re-wire my whole apartment/phone/internet connection...
after she had finished and had made a big mess in my apartment- the internet still did not work...
so she told me - it must be my HUB which is broken and to go buy a new one...
I went and bought a new HUB - internet still did not work...
So I request KT send me a service-person again - and they sent the same "ajuma" back to me...
she immediately starts re-wiring my whole apartment again - but decided this time - the wiring/cable HAS TO travel from the other end of my apartment and it MUST travel under my bed - in order for the internet to work....
so she goes and spends 6pm~9pm at my apartment - making another BIG MESS - and still internet does not work...
then she finally phones for re-inforcement/backup and a guy comes - and plugs his laptop in to the connection - and wow! the internet works on his laptop - so he tells me it is my computer that is at fault - and that I have to install a NEW LAN card...
please - give me advice - do you think it is the LAN card at fault?
how much do LAN cards cost?
how long do they take to install... because I will have to take my computer to a service centre - because I don't know how to do it myself...

Danawa shows D-Link LAN cards for between 8 and 15,000. I'm pretty sure it's easy to install one, just plugging it and and making sure it's added once you re-boot and that's it. Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

Just pop into your neighborhood computer shop or even E-mart/home-plus.
They are on the rack in the computer section and cost less than 10k.
Installation takes 5 minutes. |

I had a similar problem. It might be DSL, so you need an Ethernet LAN card. I bought a LAN card that didn't have the Ethernet capability (only cable) and they had to replace mine for it to work. You need to specifically find one that is compatible with a DSL line. |

I haven't seen a card like that for a long long time....I think they all have Ethernet now. |

Not all of them apparently. I bought one a few months ago for W10,000 and it didn't have Ethernet compatibility. That is probably why it only cost W10,000. I bought it at a brand-new/nice computer shop on Hagwon-ga.
I really wouldn't be surprised if that was the OP's problem. |

Are you sure it wasn't just defective....those cheap cards from China probably don't have very good manufacturing. I think its very likely that you and the OP just bought crappy cheap cards (although it means the same thing...you need a new card with Ethernet ).
** I once bought a LAN card that was simply defective...exchanged it for the same type of model and it worked fine.
---Or you could just be right...I don't know. |

The OP has onboard LAN and there are some reasons why his internet isn't working. I am off to his house tomorrow, so we will see what happens.
Thread dead. |
