More than two thirds of poll respondents think he's creepy.

That sorta trumps the "logic" of the armchair evolutionary psych. being practiced in this thread.

Isn't marrying for love a relatively recent concept in human history?

I'm in my very early twenties...I've had more than my fair share of attractive girlfriends, and they paid my way as much as I paid theirs.

I'd just like to know whether or not I'd be a creep if I married an Indonesian girl? Certainly you're not all ageist to the point where you can't fathom a younger girl liking an older guy (it happens the world over, and not just with well-off men).

So, as a yankie....would any girl that I might fall for in Indonesia marry me, just because she has no other choice?

-Norith

P.S. That old dude is creepy as hell.

And your evidence that she had no other choice is....what exactly?

In any case, you've made the invalid assumption that no other choice = compulsion.

IfOlder women do suck with regard to sexual attractiveness. It's because they're infertile. Actually, that's backwards - older women are infertile because they are sexually unattractive and haven't influenced the genepool. Men are fertile their whole lives, so it's not at all hypocritical. Older women are reproductively useless; older men are not, hence why older men hit on younger women. Again, it's backwards: Older women are reproductively useless because men of all ages hit on girls in their 20s (and older women capable of reproduction didn't reproduce and those genes died out).

You really come across as an arrogant, psuedo-intellectual and pretentious ass. Do you ever take any time out from lecturing people to have a laugh at your own expense?

I'm going for autism. It explains the long 'scientific' rant with a total lack of emotional empathy.

Nope. But you creeps can continue to persuade yourselves that she wasn't forced. Almost all prostitution and marriages like these are forced in Asia (and other places), usually by the families for money or a green card (they can move over when she has become a citizen of those countries). I can't prove it for this guy, but I'm not putting the guy on trial or trying to annul his marriage. Then, I would also demand proof. But I'm just giving my opinion of the ass, and statiscally, these girls are almost always forced to do these things and don't want to.

Assuming he is kind, generous, and gentle. where is the problem exactly?

No problems with the age differences - just the cultural differences. (My ex (European) partner was 15 years younger than me and age simply wasn't an issue in our happiness together.)

But all creepiness aside, and yes, this guy looks pretty creepy - there are some positives in this marriage.

First, she's just secured her family's economic future. She's Asian, so she's been brought up to have a life-long debt to her parents - and her family. She's not an individual - and wouldn't understand our western culture and our ludicrous (to her and her no doubt impoverished family), 'marry for love' stuff. For her and her family, it's all about the money.

So, in marrying Mr. Creepy, she's not only paying her debt - she's maybe also given her father, brothers, uncles and cousins etc - a licence to sit around drinking and gambling for the rest of their lives (without having to worry about work). Well done that daughter!

And not to be sneezed at, Mr C. gets a family. He can live out his remaining days in a tropical paradise - being looked after by countless relatives and his doting wife (as long as his money doesn't run out). And, he gets to fiddle with her - once or twice a month (as long as he has access to Viagra).

But there's also some very big negatives for her. If she gets pregnant to him (as her culture/family will demand to keep the marriage/money flow alive), there's a risk that the ensuing child will be retarded. (I see these couples a lot in Thailand - and the Thais say, "Baby bit stupid. Papa, he old too much".)

And he runs the risk of being cast out - if his money runs out. He (and his income) have been weighed, measured and found okay for now. But if he can't keep up the payments - he'll find he's definately not wanted.

And he's right, this girl will literally love him to death, feed him to death, ride him to death - and if he steadfastly refuses to die (after a decent interval), she may well hurry things up by quietly poisoning him.

So, another Western/Asian marriage made in heaven. Good luck Mr. C. I suspect I've just glimpsed my future.

Faster,

1. two out of three hagwon jockeys believe X
2. Therefore X is true

....is the most bizarre fallacy I've ever seen.

Asylum seeker and Atavistic,

You are the kinds of people who respond with insults when confronted with an evidenced slice of reality you feel threatened by. Sux2bu.

Nicholas,

You are a raving anti-semite and also you cheapen the developmental disorder of children, autism, by using it as an insult. I hope you're ingenious in the classroom, otherwise said classroom is no place for a character like you.

Can ANYBODY make a direct hit on a claim?

Saying someone is quotable is an insult in your world?

What in the hell did your parents teach you?

They were insults, my dear. Laughing

Never mind. Complicated stuff, obviously.

So, back to the debate. Who can refute me??
