I always see 22% written on the bottles. It's the only percent so I assume it means alcohol content.

Hmm... I have one bottle for tonight. By my calculations, that won't get me as drunk as I'd like...

Perhaps two may do the trick. It's a steal for a mere 1$ more.

A better question would be: how many calories are in a bottle of soju?

Nah, I don't drink this poison enough to be concerned about a calorie count.

I could go to 7-11 and get another bottle... but I'm lazy. We'll see. I'll be sure to report back, as I'm sure everyone is holding their breath.

yes, you will probably need another bottle.

i'd say a soju bottle is equivalent to about 4 shots of a standard liquor at 80 proof.

20s. I always thought it was 27%, but I may be confusing it with something else

i think the old school sojus were around 25. but the trend is for the alc % to get lower. i think one brand is in fact under 20 now.

Soju has meta-alcohol.......I can drink just about a full bottle of whiskey and seem the most sensible chap in the room, but 3 bottles of soju makes me an arsehole.

For research purposes I have repeated this test many times. It holds true.

I think I found it on the bottle... 19.5%. So, though my math skills are poor, one bottle is about six shots of your average hard liquor.

It's a start...

Yeah, I think it has gone down to about 19.5% now. Its falling year by year. Personally I prefer the old style one with the red/white label. But anyhow, dont bother comparing it to regular booze in terms of how drunk it will get you as its a completely different buzz. I reckon the trick is not to mix it with beer. Knock 3 or at most 4 bottles back and you'll be in a lovely semi-hallucinagenic drunken state. Most I ever had was approx 6-7 I think and took me about a week to recover. Although strangely many koreans I meet have claimed to have personal records of 14+ bottles Embarassed Id love to seem them prove it Wink

i've never counted, but i heard several times that a bottle of soju contains seven standard shots- the reason for this being that 7 is only divisible by itself and 1. thus if two, three, four, five or more people drink, there will always be at least one person with an empty glass when the bottle runs out, which forces you to order a new one rather than just stop drinking.

I've noticed two kinds of Jihnro soju with very similar labels but slightly different colored caps. One is 19.5 % and the other is 20%. Whats up with that?
