Damn, you beat me to it. Guess I'll go with;

"The US wins for most colourful groceries."

Oh yeah, and I'd like to live with the Ahmed family for a week.

I think that most of the poor countries - except maybe Chad, which is obviously dirt poor - have relatively healthy diets compared to the richer, more developed countries led by Germany and the U.S.

Due to consumerism, all kinds of unhealthy crap - including meat and assorted junk foods/drinks - are sold to families through predatory advertising.

As families in developed countries get smaller and more difficult to maintain, extended families in poor countries manage to eat fruits, vegetables, and grains (and maybe some milk, eggs, and fish) for a tiny fraction of what the "richer" families pay for overprocessed, slickly-packaged junk (while killing billions of animals a year ...)

And most of us buy into it (and uncritically support the unnecessary slaughter of poor animals so a few demons can get rich ...)

The American family`s diet consisted of Burger King, Potato Chips, McDonalds, Coke, Pizzas and so on. A truely healthy diet indeed!!

Oh, there is a small side portion of fruit though Very Happy

It's a fascinating photo essay, but before I read too much into it, I'd like to know how it came to be. Who ran this study? What were the parameters & guidelines? Who chose these families, and why?

In short, where did you find it?

I think any family in America could look at those photos and pick out which family has the healthiest eating. I think the Americans and Germans are buying those products not because of predatory advertising but because they simply taste good.

Very interesting thread.

I notice, though, that the closest they got to Asia was Bhutan. Wonder why...

*sigh* Another embarassing time to be American. Part of me does think that picture was staged, though, to reflect what is considered "typical." But still, embarassing. Anything remotely healthy? Tomatoes, grapes. I'm not a health nut, and I love junk food, too, but I'm also not raising two kids on pizza, chicken, and tacos. And why is there Burger King AND McDonald's? I see a Burger King drink but no burger.

i dunno, it looks fairly typical to me...pizza once a week, burger once a week...dont see it as such a huge deal.

but i mean, how come it doesnt show the other families "restaurant" food - do they never eat out in other countries?
