Yeah...I wasn't required get an apostille on my police check - I just got one in case that happens to be 'the requirement of the day' when I go in to get my ARC processed. (you know how fickle those immi bureaucrats are!)
But I agree with you, Alexander, that an attached apostille (almost definitely) won't be a requirement because the powers-that-be are beginning to realise that for the majority of teachers it just isn't an achieveable request in the time given. |

Was anyone hesitant to send off their actual passport for the E-2 app?
I just got my paperwork in the mail and I can't believe they want me to send it. I might just drive to chicago... |

Unless you live on the doorstep of the embassy/consulate, this is fairly standard procedure when getting a visa to anywhere. Use registered post of a courier. |

I was a little hesitant, but just couriered all the documents & my passport to the embassy anyway - fingers crossed - and it came back to me safe & sound with the E2 just a working day later.
I say send it because Chicago seems like an eternity away to me! (to be precise - as far away as 13,178 km - or 8,189 miles for those of the imperial weights & measures persuasion)  |

Thanks for the feedback about my consulate everyone. I have a copy of my police check, because I figured there was gonna be problems galore about it. So I'm ready, just in case.
How did you guys determine that we need the notarized/apostilled CBC for our ARC though? I looked through all my info about the ARC and I didn't see anything like that. |

I haven't seen an explicit regulation requiring the attaching of an apostille to a CRC. It was being bandied about as being a possible requirement but hasn't come to fruition.
I got an apostille attached just in case - but it might yet turn out to be a waste of $$$. Although it does make a bland meaningless document look rather fancy!
To paraphrase, the NZ CRCs say something to the effect "this person hasn't committed a crime - or if he has, we can't tell you about it" - go figure! |

OK! Well I needed some reassurance I guess. Yeah Chi-town seems pretty far! It's only a 4 hour drive for me 
The only time I applied for a visa (extended) it was while I was in Germany-- and I did it in person. Well here goes nothing! |

I haven't gotten my contract yet  My recruiter says they should get it in 1 - 3 days but then I still need to receive it and get that Visa. I'm seriously freaking out. |

you might email them and ask for a tracking number, if only to put your mind at ease.
so now, i got up this morning, combed my hair, put on a tie, and was ready to drive to the embassy in houston for what i somehow thought would be an interview...
but.. i guess i just mail everything, huh?
man, i was about to walk out the door when i got this funny inkling to check out this thread. weird.
so some of you guys seem to be getting your passports back safely enough. are you sending original diplomas, too? can i send that? is it all good? |

juskajo - the embassy didn't want to see my degree. I actually sent sealed under- & postgrad transcripts and these were returned unopened along with my new E2 visa! I recommend you give your nearest embassy a call to see what they need. Mine required the following, which I think is standard:
the completed E2 application (PDF downloaded from your embassy website)
notice-of-appointment certificate
contract (each page signed)
passport
2x passport-sized photgraphs
NZD80 bank cheque
These six items are listed at 1(c) on the 'INFO FOR SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS' handout that probably came in your recently received package. |

Yeah, the woman in the Wellington embassy is amazingly fast at times ... when I went in to get one of my E-2s she told me I could collect it two hours later Although not too keen to follow Suneater's lead and courier it all down (contract arrived Thursday the 31st) ... but then it's only a three hour drive for me.
Hanging out for my Korean Air (only one that goes direct from Auckland now  ) flight on the 20th |

are you a manawatu-ite, Matt? I thought about going over to Seoul with Korean Air but I never have an enjoyable flight with that airline (and the tickets are usually way overpriced!) |

Nah mate .... Hawkes Bay.
Only flown with them once ... and that wasn't too bad ... and so much faster than going via Singapore or Hong Kong.
One way price with them was NZ$1373 ... so not too bad. |

Mine needs all that and a criminal record check. Sealed trancripts. My original degree. A photocopy of my passport (as well as the original).
And they specify black pen only for the application form.  |
