The part that awes me is that the town was inhabited 2,000 years (give or take) before writing was invented. It used to be thought that writing was invented quite soon after city living developed. This discovery indicates that is not true.

Another problem for biblical literalism. Odd the bible could be the written word since the beginning and yet there's no evidence of writing 2,000 years.

If there's anything worse than a religiphobe, its an ignorant religiphobe. Who said the Bible was the written word since the beginning? Please....I'll be waiting.....even for billions of years!

It would seem to me that creationists view the accounts in the bible (notably genesis) as if someone was penning them as they happened.

For quite a time some archeologists in Iraq and Egypt were in a rather uncivilized competition to claim the title of First Civilization. First one would come out with an older site, then a year or two later the other side would retaliate with an older claim.

This latest claim by the Egyptians must be gnawing at the guts of the Iraqis, driving them staight up the side of a ziggurat.

Well, I am a creationist (sort of) but I've never even heard of the Bible being penned as the events happened. I think it is believed that Moses wrote down Genesis after many years of things being handed down orally. Even accounts of the New Testament weren't written down until years later. I know this doesn't mean much to people like you, but it is what it is.

And this oral history was transmitted perfectly over how many years?

I wonder if they'll find reptilian shape-shifters in the rubble?
