If you're looking for fuses for guitar or bass amps, there's only 2 places in Seoul to get them. One of them is at the 세원상가SaeWonSanGa. There's a shop there that has any kind of fuses or electrical components called (가야휴즈전문점) that you might need. This market is located at Jogno 3Ga Subway station, exit 12. If you walk straight out of exit 12 and walk over 100 meters, there is a big white building on your right, and there you are. You can't miss it. I blew a fuse on my Eden bass amp and Nagwon is just CRAP for high end music components and gear. The guy there is really nice and his prices aren't bad. I think Nagwon Music Instrument market is Jogno 3Ga exit 5 or 6. |

I'm looking for a five string bass, active pickups, preferrably used. Ive been to Nagwon many times and everything I see there is crap. Everything, or it is extrememly expensive, thus leading to my conclusion that it is still crap. Korean's can make good acoustic guitars but the basses I have played here suck. Every single one of them. I am considering going over to Japan to search for one, but that's a bit too much for me to handle right now. Any advice? |

All the instruments at Nagwon ARE CRAP!! Best bet is musiciansfriend.com or get a custom Carvin bass. I bought my Ken Smith5 off of E-Bay and got it shipped here via my parents as a "gift" and somehow avoid the taxes. You could make a Japan trip and try out stuff there. There are some GREAT music shops in Tokyo that I saw when I was there and you MIGHT be able to find something that you like there if you're one of those HAVE TO PLAY IT BEFORE I BUY IT kind of guys. I put my faith in the quality of Ken Smith basses and lucked out when I ordered it off of ebay. I also have a Yamaha RXB7 4 string fretless with aftermarket EMG pickups that I need to have my parents ship to me that's just sitting and collecting dust there. It's hard to find acoustic basses here too. I also lucked out and found a really good one at Nagwon for the price, but if I but a much better one(which I'm going to do soon), I'm probably going to go to this string bass luthier down near the Seoul Arts Center. If you get lucky, you might be able to find something at Nagwon. There's a guy in Uijongbu that makes custom basses that sound pretty good, but I'd have to email my old army buddy to find out his name and how to contact that guy, or maybe I could have my wife do a naver search for me. There's the other option of buying a cheap Mexican made Fender bass and replace it with EMG or Bartolleni active pick ups(sound VERY HOT and VERY GOOD). Also, I don't know what kind of sound you're looking for, whether your looking for a more jazz/r&b-ish Ken Smith sound or an old school J or P bass sound, ....or how much money your willing to spend. Let me know what you're looking for and I'll keep my eyes open on the internet and on my normal trips to the land of crappy stuff, Nagwon. |

Looking for something that has a heavy sound, that I can pound the shit out of with my thumb yet still pop with my index fingers. Sensitive pickups are good, unfortunatley I don't know the technicalities of pickups. I just find a lot of Korean basses not that good, I always hurt my fingers when playing them and the strings are too close together. Something with a good low end. |

If you're lookin' for a good thumper bass with a good low end that you can pound the crap out of, look into Music Man Sting Ray 5's. I've got an old vintage Music Man Sabre bass 4 string and I can pound the Heck out of it. Plus, the music mans are known for wide string spacing. Yamaha TRB 5's also have wide string spacing. I've played on some of the TRB 6's and the neck is as wide as a raillroad trussel. |
