A while back, rapier mentioned that nothing here phased him anymore. I felt this way during my second year of teaching in Taiwan.

Spit on a chopstick then flick it on the Taiwanese teacher? Sure, why not.
Punch me in the nuts and when I pull you away tell your mother that I was abusing you? Go for it.
Urinate on my scooter before I leave work? Heck, I clearly deserve it, having travelled so far just to act like a fool on your behalf.

As much as I like Korea, I just have that "been there, done that" feeling. Spitting on the sidewalk/my shoe? Nothing new to an experienced traveller such as myself.
Coughing in my face? Spread the wealth my fine comrade.

There's more, but I wrote about this stuff years ago and don't want to repeat myself. I need a new country filled with oddities. Not Asia and definitely not Africa.

Any recommendations?

Not sure what you are asking? A new country? Well there are many, as you know. Where do you want to go? Europe? South America? Other?

There was an ESL job I saw an ad for for Kurdish Iraq. Would that be different enough?

Yep, i feel like that a lot... but as an esler I need to be able to save money, in order to travel later. As much as I'd love the new experience of working in some exotic possibly 3rd world country, I prefer to work where the money is ok and has saving potential. to me, that is synonymous with Korea, japan, or taiwan.
Is being able to save fairly good money important to you in your new plans..??

Well mon cher, how about papua new guinea? or maybe Gore, south island of nz, there's some oddities down there.

Is esl teaching all you're qualified to do? do you have any other special attributes that would be an assett to this new community?

I'm in my second year her. While its true I probably ned to go somewhere new for some new experiences, its also true that the "inner journey" can be more important then any geographical one . (Hear me, oh my children).
You can also get jaded by constantly travelling from new country to new country...after a while it becomes as interesting in life to be tackling your personal challenges and so on.. i mean when you think about it, you can actually have a fair amount of time on your hands here to think; reflect; plan ahead; which is very important....

I've always thought Ethiopia would be the be-all end-all to knock your socks off and nothing else quite like it in the world. If youre looking for that.

If you are just looking for something outside of Asia and Africa.. hard to know where to recommend. I do know what you are saying that after you've seen enough of Asia.. it all kind of seems the same more or less despite the many differences. I mean as an overall impression or simplistic level to it.

Rather than looking for something bizarre and crazy.. I'd say go for somethng that just flows nicely.. that place would have to be Brazil.

There was a job advertised last year in Jenin Refugee Camp in the West Bank just after the Israeli military took the place down. God only knows what happened to the previous teacher but they advertised it as "Enjoy the peace and tranquility of the hills"... Confused and "Get more than just money because you'll get to experience the Middle East conflict first hand."
It may still be available if you're interested BB.... Twisted Evil

No matter where you go or no matter what job you do it will become 'samey' after awhile. There is no holy grail.

There is about a 50/50 chance I'll end up there in April.. depending on something. Would be very cool place to be I think.

I agree with this. Hard to suggest.. as for 'Rapier Syndrom'.. I'd say if he's somewhat finished with Asia and Africa.. and I believe he isn't talking about Western (Europe/N.America/Austrailia-NZ) realm.. then I'm assuming it basically means South America/Latin America!!

What a great choice!! I love it down there!!
