Sound familiar?
Comparatively, Vista is a better release than XP was. More stable and more secure right from the start. I remain a happy Vistite. |

That's funny. People were complaining in 2002 about having to upgrade from 64mb to 128mb of RAM!!
If you think about how many millions of people use Windows then it's inevitable a good portion of those will be dissatisfied each time a new version comes out. |

It's the fervor of the recent convert!
True though....Vista has already grown on me. When I use my wife's XP machine it feels so clunky. |

Selling software is almost as good as a Christian selling the afterlife for my tithe money today.
Prime jobs:
1: Billy Graham --- Selling heaven to the masses.
2: Bill Gates --- Selling a product no one can physically see but all want.
3: Porn Star --- Breaking in the new virgins to the business.
4: Matress Tester --- Sleeping your way to the top of the company.
5: Beer Taster --- Drinking your way to the top of the company.

Why do I like Vista? (And let's keep Bill out of this...I don't know him personally and don't comment about him, per say. His company makes products I enjoy.)
I was bored with computing. I had no problems at all with anything anymore. My XP install was working flawlessly for years.
I was bored to tears with XP as I knew everything I needed to and more. Vista is new. It's a new toy for me and there is much to learn. I expect to hose my install anyday now, and while I know it will be terribly inconvenient, it will end up being fun and educational. Also, going 64 bit has given me a lot of enjoyment and so there's that.
Thus, my seeming infatuation with Vista. It will end, once I figure it all out and frankly, it won't take long. I am already most of the way there, so expect this romance to fade soon.
Then I will be back to my old self, unimpressed with MS and Vista in general. |

I'm intrigued by all these people who say Vista is terrible, buggy or just doesn't work. Are they using the same Vista as me? Was there a huge batch of defective Vista install discs released?
I hear some people complaining that they can't install their old software on Vista.......so get the new versions!! Why would you want to run old software. Get with it! Nothing stands still in computing. OS's, hardware, software applications........it's called progress!
Vista has worked perfectly for me since I installed it last March. If someone with limited computer expertise such as I can be problem-free, what's going on with all these nay-sayers? |

These are the people who complain because that's what they do best. If they were at a picnic they would complain because it wasn't raining.
either that or they are linux/mac (wannabe) fanboys. |

Among the reasons for Vistas' failure is most certainly the lemming effect. People believe things that they hear, even unsubstantiated things. Say it enough and they will buy it. This happened in a big way to Vista.
In the early days the industry acted like Vista came out of the blue and they weren't ready. I mean, Korea's mass reaction alone (Remember? Anyone want to dig up that post I put up about how POed Korea was about the active X issue?) is enough to see that even slow trains can kill people.
There was a huge swell against Vista (founded, but unfounded, as all new OSes have been problematic in the beginning) and the public became quite unforgiving. I think this has a lot to do with all of the anti-trust legal problems that MS had; people hear anti-trust and they assume it means the same thing it does in their little world: we can't trust MS, when in legal reality, it isn't so simple. The momentum continued (igotthisguitar will have some fun exposing the *.nix crowd as the antagonists...them and Steve Jobs and his Kool-aid swilling cronies) and even today, it is rumor and trepidation that rule the day.
I can say this because I was one of them, and I had no excuse: I am not a technotard. People who think the computer is some magic box from fairyland built by gnomes with high IQs must be absolutely mortified by all the stories.
So, I think the lemming theory carries a lot of weight. People don't really know and believe what they hear. Follow the flock. |
