Apparently, John McCain has confided to reporters that he has a secret plan to capture Osama bin Laden.
So Washington Wire was wondering, what does McCain know that President Bush and the Pentagon dont about how to sweep up Americas most elusive enemy.
One thing I will not do is telegraph my punches. Osama bin Laden will be the last to know, he said today while riding on the back of his bus between Florida events. In other words: hes not telling. Why not share his strategy with the current occupant of the White House? Because I have my own ideas and it would require implementation of certain policies and procedures that only as the president of the United States can be taken. |

Well, Christ on a crutch! I've heard this one before. Nixon also had a 'secret plan' to end the war in Vietnam. It turned out the secret plan was to fight four more years and then announce 'Peace is at Hand' just weeks before the election.
I might be cynical, but I think I've earned the right. |

Anyone point out yet that Nixon claimed during an election that he had a secret plan to end the Vietnam war? |

Huh, turns out this is a bit of a myth:

A reporter attributed the phrase to him but then Nixon did not deny it. (Surely, a "do you still beat your wife?" question. "No I don't have a secret plan." "Oh you don't have a plan then hun?") In any regard, the idea was used against Nixon and it would seem silly for McCain to repeat the error, robbing McCain of his straight shooter appeal. |

Bush never managed to get Osama in his 8 years in office. That's kind of a failure of his presidency. Plain and simple. For a guy so proud to take Saddam's gun and put it over his fire place, that's gotta eat at his craw.
I do remember the conspiracy theories about how Bush knows where he is and will capture him just before the election. Well, never happened. Another one I've heard for this election is oil companies will start to drop the price of oil. This will rob the Dems of votes. An economist noted if you really believe this, just go long on oil futures and you'll make a killing. Since you know the future, there is a great way to profit from it. |

I was actually surprised McCain mentioned Bin Ladin's name. That's kind an unwritten Republican embarrassment. To name his name is to basically say what a complete failure Bush's only mission in office has been at the expense of all other issues/national concerns. |

^ Nobody's running against Bush.* So no harm in mentioning Bin Laden's name per se. Indeed, it appears McCain is promising to do what Bush failed to do.
*Edit: now that I think about it, every candidate is running against Bush. |

I'm an insider, people, so I've got the scoop on the poop. McCain, always a fan of war movies, went to see "Rambo" a few days ago. Seeing a decrepit old man kick so much ass has inspired McCain. John McCain has decided that he will go after Osama himself. And he will destroy him. All the gladhanding of Huckabee was not an appeal to Huckabee's voters rather an appeal to Chuck Norris. McCain is putting together a strike team to take out Bin Laden. I expect him to appeal to Arnie and Stephen Segal while campaigning in California. |

U.S. won't say who killed militant
Pakistan too is mum on who launched strike on a top Al Qaeda leader.
By Josh Meyer, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
February 2, 2008
WASHINGTON -- The top U.S. military officer on Friday described the airstrike that killed a leading Al Qaeda commander in Pakistan as an important victory, but he refused to say whether the U.S. government had anything to do with it.
"The strike was a very important one, it was a very lethal one," Navy Adm. Michael G. Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said at a Pentagon news conference. He brushed aside questions about any role the Pentagon may have played.
The CIA and the Pakistani government also refused to say who might have fired the missile or missiles that are believed to have killed Abu Laith al Libi and perhaps other Al Qaeda leaders in a small compound in northwest Pakistan this week.
The U.S. government's reluctance to take public credit for the killing of Al Libi underscores the growing tensions between the United States and Pakistan over how to attack Al Qaeda as it entrenches itself on Pakistani territory, current and former U.S. officials and other experts said. |

Industries moved factory jobs to China because they could be done cheaper. The result is Americans can buy things cheaper than ever before and then the money they save they can spend on other things. There's nothing at all wrong with this. |
